“Tessa, I am observing you since the evening. You keep zoning out.” Logan asked me once we sat down on the swing outside the house.
The mild sea breeze was soothing my mind but I couldn’t deal with the inner turmoil inside
“I am fine, Logan. It just the work pressure. You know I haven’t worked for years so it’ll take me some time to adapt to this new life style.” I replied because it wasn’t a lie.
“I understand but I am glad that you’re finally making use of your talent. How is the progress with your launch?” He asked with keen interest and it surprised me because he rarely asked about my work.
“Yes, we have a date for our first show but the store opening is two days after the show because we’re making limited edition for now.” I told him.
“It’s good if you want to target a certain class but as a businessman I advise you to go for mass if you want to sell for people who can afford your clothes otherwise rich people have other options. That’s my advice, it’s up to you if you want to consider it.”
Logan was a successful businessman whose advise couldn’t be useless.
“I’ll talk to Adrian about this because he takes the final call.” I said.
There was again silence between us.
“Logan, I have to tell you something.” I mustered up confidence to tell him about the baby.
“Yes, Tessa. I am listening.” He nodded his head paying full attention to me.
“Have you ever thought of havi-”
My sentence was cut in middle when Lucas walked out of the house clutching his stuffed toy.
“Mommy, I can’t sleep alone. This place is new for me and I am scared of sleeping alone.” Lucas said with a pout.
“Aww, are you scared of the ghosts, Lucas?‘ I pulled his cheeks and he shyly nodded his head.
“Can I sleep with you and Dad?” He asked looking between us.
I sighed in relief because if Lucas would sleep with us, it’d be less awkward for me but Logan seemed disappointed.
“Lucas, you’re a big boy and ghosts don’t exist. They only happen in stories.” Logan tried to convince his son but I knew how stubborn Lucas could be sometimes.

“But the house has many windows and I am not familiar with the surroundings. Please, Dad. Let me sleep with you and Mommy.” Lucas made a puppy face and I knew Logan could never win against his son.
“Okay, you can sleep with us but be a good boy because we won’t let you be awake till late.” Logan surrendered.
“Thank you, Dad. I love you.” Lucas jumped into his father’s arms.
“I’ll arrange your pillows in our bed.” I said and went inside first.
I missed another chance to tell him.
Perhaps, tomorrow I’d be able to tell him.
Lucas settled between us and again I saw how Logan’s face showed disappointment.
Was he planning to sleep beside me?
“Mommy, can you tell me a story? It helps me to sleep easily.” Lucas turned to cuddle with me.
“I am not good with stories but I’ll tell you one tonight about a little girl who was the princess of her parents just like you but one day, she was left alone.” I said.
Logan’s eyes met mine who was laying on the other side of Lucas.
It was my story.
“Why the princess was left alone? Where did her parents go?” Lucas asked with a frown.
“They left this world to live in God’s abode. The princess had to live with cruel people who only wanted her palace and her kingdom.” I began to tell him about my hard childhood, an untold side that no one knew.
I never told anyone because there was no one to see my pain.
Lucas was fast asleep by the time I had finished, I only ended when I got the scholarship to study in the fashion college in the country.
But Logan’s eyes were wide open.
“Tessa, I never imagined that your life was this hard?”
His voice was low but full of tenderness and a trace of sympathy.
“Who said I was talking about my life. I told him a story to help him learn a lesson about life.”
I said and laid straight to face the ceiling but I missed my parents.
Life could be different for me if they were alive.
“You were a brave girl, Tessa. I feel more proud of the person you have become through your adversities. You never gave up.” He said.
