I couldn’t get enough of staring at my baby who was sleeping soundly in the cradle that Ruby had arranged for my baby as long as I decided to stay at her condo.
But I was planning to find a place soon which wouldn’t be far from my workplace and also affordable.
Life had given me another chance and I was going to live for my daughter.
“You sleep too much. Mommy wants to cuddle with you, princess.” I gently stroked her haired head.
She had my features but her hairs and eyes were exactly like her father.
The thought of him caused a dull ache in my heart.
I didn’t expect him to appear but he did.
A part of me leaped out of happiness when I saw his desperate attempts to tend to me but I had to follow my mind rather than my silly heart who always pushed me into an abyss of pain.
The baby stirred in her sleep and I quickly patted her stomach so she could sleep peacefully.
After the childbirth which came with a c–section and complications, I felt drained out easily. My stiches were removed but I was
not allowed to move much.
Ruby had sent her maid to take care of the household chores.
The doorbell rang and it put an end to my one–sided conversation with my daughter.
“I’ll go and check, Ma’am.” The maid came out of the kitchen to open the door.
I sat by the cradle assuming it must be Ruby or Adrian who planned to visit me for dinner and help me to arrange my temporary
room with a baby.
But my heart almost skipped a beat when I heard a voice that I missed in months.
“Mommy!”
It was Lucas who ran into the house, his eyes desperately searching for me until they found me.
“Lucas..” I whispered as my throat choked.
“Mommy!” Lucas‘ lips quivered as his feet walked into my direction.
Tears blurred my vision. I didn’t realise until the moment that he was an inseparable part of my life whom I had abandoned.
“Lucas, be careful. Your Mommy might not be able to hug you tightly.” Logan, who was right behind him warned him as the young boy was about to fly into my arms.
Lucas looked hesitated when he heard his father but I grabbed his hand and made him sit on the floor and embraced him.
“It’s okay, you can hug Mommy.” I whispered as my voice was thick with emotions.
His tiny arms wrapped around my frame and the boy broke down.
“Why did you leave me, Mommy? You promised me that you’ll never abandon me.” He hiccup on my chest.
“I am sorry, baby. I am sorry.” I cried too.
The yearning of months broke the walls I tried building around myself. I left this innocent soul for his father’s mistakes.

1 deceived a child for whom I could fight the whole world, even his biological mother.
“I missed you so much, Mommy. Please, don’t leave me again.” He buried his face on my chest refusing to leave me.
1 smiled amid my tears.
“Lucas, I have to introduce you to someone.” I said cupping his face.
He slowly lifted his head but his arms still around me as if he was afraid that I’d leave him again.
“Luke, you have a sister now.” I said softly and pointed my finger on the cradle which he probably hadn’t noticed earlier because his attention was on me.
His face tilted to glance inside the cradle and his eyes widened.
“Mommy? Is that a baby? You have a baby?” Lucas exclaimed.
“Yes, Lucas. She is your sister.” Logan spoke who had been staring at the baby while I had a reunion moment with Lucas.
He slowly let go of my embrace and peeked inside the cradle.
“My sister?” He looked at me for confirmation.
He was still confused and trying to grasp the new surprise.
“Yes, your sister. Do you want to touch her?” I encouraged him.
Lucas still looked puzzled,
