I looked down and couldn’t look away from the pure form of innocence.
Tessa was sleeping on the couch. We played chess, it might sound boring to some people but we loved playing it with each other because Tessa was quite good at playing chess.
After playing two sets, I went to grab us some refreshment but when I returned, I found her dozing on the couch. She could sleep easily if she wasn’t stressed or sick.
She twitched her nose and I noticed that her hairs were disturbing her. So, I knelt down and carefully, I removed her hairs from her face. She was in the prime of her youth, young, beautiful and confident. Even without wearing any makeup, her beauty was flawless.
She had a long life and a good future ahead. Somewhere, I felt that she had to sacrifice a lot to adjust in my lifestyle.
I had stolen a lot from her.
But I was willing to pay it back.
My phone vibrated thus putting a break on my staring session and I cursed the caller because it’s very rare when I had the chance to observe Tessa from this close.
It was from my secretory. I couldn’t ignore this call.
“Hello.” I said in my professional tone.
“Sir, there’s an emergency at our new site. Some locals are creating ruckus and hindering the construction. We can’t do much because they are some activists. Please, can you come over here before the situation gets out of our hands?”
My secretory sounded panicked.
“Don’t worry, I’ll be there in an hour. Please, till then make sure that no media can cover the scene because then they’d make a scandal out of it. I hate unnecessary problems.” I said and ended the call.
“What happened?”
Tessa’s worried voice forced me to turn around. She was looking at me with sleepy eyes.
“I am sorry to disturb your sleep. I should have talked somewhere else.” I apologized because I was actually talking in a high pitch.
“No, I was only napping so I woke up on my own.‘ She shook her head and then continued, “What happened? You look stressed?” She again asked.
“There’s an emergency at our new plant construction site.” I told her everything.
“Logan, I think you should take your lawyer or your legal advisor with you because such people don’t back away easily. Some of them are actually fighting for good reasons but sometimes, business rivals also use hired. propagandists to create problems for their competitors.” She advised me.
“Thank you, Tess. I didn’t think about it.” I liked her suggestion because she had a point.
There was a brief silence between us. I could say that she wanted to say something but she was holding herself

back.
“I might be late. The drive is of three hours if I start now and I don’t know how much time it’ll take me to negotiate with them. So, either it’s late night or tomorrow. Please, take care and don’t stress. If you need anything you just have to inform Felix. He’ll be here in no time.” I said to her.
“You should be going now and I and kids will be fine. Don’t worry about us.” She assured me.
I rushed to my room to change my clothes.
This sudden crisis stressed me because my father was the one who used to handle such crisis earlier. He wanted me to focus on our company. Now, I had to be more careful.
And there was an unknown uneasiness in my heart. I couldn’t name it but I felt like something bad might happen.
Tessa was standing at the entrance of our house with Lena in her arms.
I walked up to them and leaned down to kiss my daughter’s forehead.
“Don’t trouble your Mama, princess. Your Dad will be back soon.” I said to my daughter who was looking at me with her beautiful eyes.
Then my eyes met with Tessa’s.
I knew she might get upset but my heart wanted me to do it. So, I leaned closer to her and softly pecked her crown.
“I’ll be back soon.” I whispered to her.
Our faces were inches apart.
“Drive safely even if the drive will be the one who’d drive and be patient. They’ll try to get a reaction out of you to use it against you and the company.” She advised me.
