Grayson looked at Noah by his side and said, “Let’s just go home and wait. I’m telling you, you’re definitely my

“If you don’t believe me, at least trust your mom. She was only ever with me.”

She glared at Grayson.

She thought, ‘Look at him, acting all smug.’

Noah walked outside without saying a word.

They reached the parking lot.

Eloise shouldered past Grayson and slid into the driver’s seat.

Seeing this, Grayson was speechless.

Not daring to protest, he went around to the other side and got into the passenger seat.

He thought, ‘She’s got a bit of a temper.

Eloise floored it and dropped Grayson off at the VirtuFusion Group building.

Eloise said, “I’m taking the car. We’re going out for a bit.”

Grayson tried to invite her, asking, “Want to come up for a bit?”

Eloise replied, “No.”

Grayson opened the door and got out, a disappointed look on his face.

He said, “Eloise, I’ll be home right on time tonight.”

Eloise replied, “Okay.”

The car shot off.

Finn called out, “Mr. Pierce, what are you standing here staring at?”

He came downstairs for something and spotted Grayson outside, eyes fixed in one direction.

He thought, ‘Why is he in a bad mood again?

‘It is less predictable than the weather forecast. I just can’t figure him out anymore.

Eloise glanced at Noah, who was sitting in the back seat.

She asked, “Do you want to go to the library?”

Noah replied, “I don’t want to.”

Eloise asked, “The amusement park?”

Noah said, “Not interested either.”

Eloise suggested, “Want to hit the supermarket?”

Noah asked, “Mom, what if the results say I’m not Dad’s kid?”

Eloise caught a glimpse of Noah in the rearview mirror. His face was full of worry.

She said, “Noah, is it really that important to you if you’re his son?”

Noah thought for a moment, then he nodded.

Eloise smiled and asked, “You really like your dad, right?”

Noah said, “Yeah. But Mom, you’re the one I love most.”

Hearing this, Eloise couldn’t help but laugh.

She thought, ‘That’s my boy, always afraid I’ll feel left out, so he’s quick to show his loyalty.’

When they got to the supermarket, Eloise took a shopping cart.

It had been forever since he actually went to preschool.

Eloise knew Noah was affecting the class attendance.

But Noah just didn’t like going to preschool.

She didn’t care anymore. If Noah wanted to go to preschool, cool. If not, whatever.

They hadn’t been home long when Noah’s tutor showed up.

Eloise took the paternity test paper to the study and made twenty copies. It was enough for Noah to slap them so many times.

Sitting on the couch in the study, she texted Grayson. [I got the test results.]

Eloise: [You don’t even ask what the results are?]

Grayson: [Do I even need to ask?]

Seeing this, Eloise pursed her lips.

She thought, ‘Seriously, this guy is so full of himself.’

A couple of seconds later, Grayson called.

Eloise picked up and asked, “What’s up?”

Grayson replied, “Just missed you, that’s all.”

Eloise covered her face, her cheeks burning.

Grayson added, “Did you miss me?”

Eloise replied, “Nope.”

Grayson laughed, saying, “You say no, but I know you missed me.”

She hung up immediately.

Grayson let out a low, amused chuckle.

Finn, who’d been standing there, couldn’t help but twitch at the corner of his mouth.

After tagging along with Grayson on a business trip to Franster, Finn had dropped about five pounds. And every chance he got, he’d complain about how Grayson spent the whole trip acting all lovey-dovey.

He thought, ‘This just isn’t fair. I work my tail off every day, so where’s my motivation?’

Finn said, “Mr. Pierce, I was hoping to take a day off tomorrow.”

Grayson’s smile faded as he looked up. “Something going on?” he asked.

Finn replied, “Yeah, I need to go to the courthouse.”

Grayson asked, surprised, “The courthouse? Wait, are you getting married? But you don’t even have a girlfriend, do you?”

Finn said, “Nope, but I’m thinking of parking my most expensive car outside the courthouse and just leaning against the hood.”

Grayson looked at him like he’d lost his mind. “What are you even planning to do?” he asked.

Finn grinned, saying, “Just waiting for some girl to come over and drag me inside to get married.”

Grayson’s mouth twitched as he asked, “Finn, are you out of your mind today?”

Finn replied, “No, I’m just desperate to get married.”

He imagined himself someday flaunting his wife, showing off their love for everyone to see.

Grayson waved him off and said, “Get out of here, stop daydreaming.”

Finn slunk out, looking deflated.

Grayson shook his head, at a loss for words.

He thought, ‘Seriously, everyone here is nuts.’

Eloise: [Juliette, come over for dinner tonight. I’ll cook.]
