Colton sat down and glanced up at her. “What are you having?”

Downstairs at the café, Juliette overheard people at the next table gossiping about her.

“Come on, it’s obvious. He never used to show up at the office, and now he’s suddenly here every day, having Juliette as his secretary and even sharing an office with her. The gossip practically reeks of scandal. It’s so strong that you could smell it from ten miles away,” a third person added.

Juliette was at a loss for words.

‘Are people really that quick to sniff out gossip?’ She wondered to herself.

“Who would’ve thought Mr. Colton would be into someone like Juliette,” one of them said.

“Isn’t Juliette older than Mr. Colton? Why would he go for an older woman with no fancy background? What does he even see in her?” another chimed in.

Juliette stood up, resting her hand on the back of her chair. “Hey, ladies, let’s be real. None of us come from some fancy family. We’re all the same here, so there’s no need to look down on anyone.”

The four women awkwardly wiped their mouths and hurried out.

Juliette smirked, then sat back down to finish her meal.

When Juliette got back, Colton had already finished his lunch and the table had been cleared off.

She nodded at him, went to her desk, put a small pillow down, and took a quick nap.

Colton was still getting used to the company, so Robert hadn’t piled much work on him yet.

“Juliette, what were you dreaming about? You look so flushed.”

‘Seriously, what’s wrong with me?’

‘How can I be this thirsty? I seriously need to chill!’ Juliette roasted herself.

Colton reached out and tapped her cheek.

“Were you dreaming about me?”

Juliette shot back instantly, like a startled cat. “I wasn’t!”

Colton grinned, leaned in closer, and glanced at the pillow marks on her face. “You don’t have to pretend around me. If there’s something you want, just say it. I’ll make sure you get it.”

Juliette was at a loss for words.

Her face burning, Juliette snapped, “I wasn’t thinking about you! Don’t get ahead of yourself. Even if I wanted to, I wouldn’t pick you. There are plenty of other guys out there for me.”

Colton’s expression shifted, his eyes narrowing. “What did you just say?”

Juliette lifted her chin, her tone cool. “I said, even if I needed something, I wouldn’t turn to you.”

Right after she said that, Colton grabbed her chin with his hand. “You’re really starting to piss me off.”

Juliette brushed his hand off. “That’s just how it is! We’re not a thing anymore, so of course I wouldn’t come to you if I needed something.”

Colton dropped the act, smirking. “Relax, the blinds are down. No one’s gonna see a thing.”

Colton always kept the blinds shut in his office, making sure no one could snoop on him or mess with his privacy.

Juliette was absolutely livid, pointing furiously at her mouth. “How am I supposed to explain this when I walk out there?”

She could already imagine her colleagues giving her those wide-eyed, gossip-hungry stares, all shocked and nosy about her lips.

Colton smirked, totally unbothered. “Just tell them I was the one who bit you.”

Juliette was at a loss for words.

“Or just make something up, like you tripped and bumped into a wall,” Colton added, totally unfazed.

Juliette shoved him away. “Go back to your seat and leave me alone.”

Colton locked eyes with her, his gaze dark and possessive. “Juliette, if you ever want it, you come to me, only me. If I ever catch you going to another man, you’re finished.”

Colton didn’t give a damn about Juliette’s past, but now that she’d slept with him, she belonged to him. He wouldn’t let anyone else lay a finger on her.

Juliette was a wild one, jumping into bed with him the very first time they met. For all he knew, she might pull the same stunt with someone else. He’d have to keep a close watch on her.
