Chloe looked displeased. “Mom, do you really think Eloise’s kid is Grayson’s? I just can’t believe it.”

Vivian replied, “If Hannah and Leo both say it’s true, then that’s all the proof you need. What, you think everyone in the Pierce family is a fool? No way they’d raise someone else’s kid as their own.”

She shot Chloe a glare. “I warned you not to run your mouth, but you never listen. Now look what you’ve done. Hannah’s mad at you.”

Chloe said, “I barely said anything. Who would’ve thought Hannah would stand up for Eloise?”

“Mom, what do we do now? Is there still any way you can get Grayson to marry me?”

Vivian got into the car without a word.

She didn’t have any ideas right now.

She’d figured if Grayson wasn’t into Chloe, maybe she could win over the Pierce family. But that wasn’t working either.

The Pierce family was different from other rich families. They didn’t care about pedigree or status.

Chloe pouted and got into the car after her.

Hannah was fuming. She called Leo and told him everything that had happened.

Leo frowned. “Harvey brought this up before. I already turned him down and told him straight about Grayson and Eloise. So why are they still coming around?”

“It’s probably still about that real estate project. The Carter family just won’t let it go. Just leave it to me, Mom. I’ll give Harvey a call.”

Harvey got the call and came home, blowing up at Vivian.

“Who told you to go messing with the Pierce family? Now they’re blowing up my phone! Can’t you just make things simple for once? If you can’t help, at least stop making things worse for me!”

Vivian was furing too and shot back, “Don’t dump your work crap on me. If you can’t get it done, that’s your own incompetence!”

Harvey just stared, lost for words.

In a fit of rage, he slapped Vivian hard across the face.

Vivian clutched her face, staring at him in disbelief. “Harvey, you dare hit me?”

Harvey felt guilty. “Honey, I’m sorry, I…”

Vivian shoved his hand away, her eyes blazing with hatred. She kicked all the servants out of the house.

Harvey was startled by her reaction. “What are you doing?”

Vivian turned on him, clawing at and hitting him. Harvey couldn’t dodge in time, and her nails left several red, bloody scratches across his face.

He couldn’t take it anymore and pushed Vivian down hard onto the couch.

Vivian’s hair was wild and disheveled, making her look like a madwoman.

Her eyes sent a chill down Harvey’s spine.

Vivian hadn’t looked at him like that in years. They hadn’t been all that affectionate, but they’d always treated each other with respect, and things at home were usually pretty calm.

He knew that slap had really set her off, so he apologized again. “I’m sorry, I lost my temper. Take it easy. Let’s not blow this up any further.”

Vivian gritted her teeth. “If Lorelei was the one standing here today, would you have hit her?”

Harvey’s face darkened. “Why are you bringing her up?”

“Why not? Feeling guilty?” Vivian shot back.

“Come on, that was ages ago. We said we’d move on. I already owned up to it. Can you please just let it go?”

“Harvey, I hate you! I really do! I gave you a son and a daughter. Wasn’t that enough for you? Why did you have to go looking for someone else?”

“Of all the women out there, you had to go after Lorelei, a single mom! Were you just trying to embarrass me?”

Harvey rubbed his temples. “What’s done is done. I ended things with Lorelei ages ago. I haven’t seen her in years. What more do you want from me?”

“Are you sure? You’re not still seeing her on the sly?”

Harvey’s face darkened. “Of course not. I promise you.”

“Promise? Then why is Lorelei back in Ekloland?”

Harvey looked surprised. “She’s in Ekloland?”

“Not only that, she brought that bastard kid of hers!”

Harvey was stunned.

With Tripp back home, Hannah figured it was a good time for the whole family to get together, so she invited

everyone over to Pierce Manor for dinner.

Grayson showed up with Eloise and Noah in tow.

As soon as he walked in, Grayson teased, “Uncle Tripp, did you get dumped or something?”

Tripp was slumped in his chair, looking totally out of it.

He looked up and shot Grayson a glare. “Who would I even get dumped by?”

He was still single as ever.

Grayson smirked. “You really look like you just got dumped. So, found anyone you actually like yet?”

He knew Tripp had been forced into these endless dates lately.

Tripp gave Hannah a pitiful look.

Life had become unbearable. In the few days since coming home, he had been forced to go on blind dates every single day, leaving him completely frustrated.

“Mom, if you’re going to set me up on dates, could you at least find someone decent? The people you keep introducing me to are all oddballs. How am I supposed to settle down with any of them?”

Hannah shot back, “At your age, who do you think is still looking for someone reliable? You’re lucky anyone’s interested at all.”

Tripp just stared, lost for words.

‘Is this really my mom?’ he thought.

“Mom, can we just drop the whole blind date thing? Marriage should happen naturally. Maybe one day I’ll just meet the right person and get married.”

Hannah said, “By then, I’ll probably be six feet under.”

“Come on, Mom, you’re going to live to be two hundred, easy,” Tripp joked.

“Get out of here! That’d make me some kind of ancient witch! Save your breath, nothing you say will change my mind. You’re going on those dates, and you won’t stop until you find someone who actually fits!”

“Mom, you’re seriously making me want to run away from home,” Tripp complained.

“Don’t you dare! If you run off, don’t even think about coming back. We’re finished.”

Tripp just stared, lost for words.

He just couldn’t reason with Hannah.

After dinner, the guys headed off to sip coffee and chat, while Noah played chess with Leo.

Eloise loved the atmosphere at the Pierce Manor. It was so warm and cozy, and she’d never experienced this kind of family before.

Even though she and Grayson weren’t married yet, she was always happy to come back to Pierce Manor with
