Grayson Pierce and Eloise Caldwell novel Chapter 58

Chapter 58

Hannah frowned. “What’s she doing here?”

Leo was just as puzzled. But Camille had saved his son, after all. He told the servant, “Let her in.”

The servant went to open the door.

Hannah frowned and said, “That girl looks like she’s got ulterior motives. I don’t like her. Bet she’s got her eyes on Grayson.”

Leo replied, “She did save Grayson. We should at least be polite. Since she’s here, let’s just be courteous. That’s enough.”

Hannah pursed her lips but didn’t say anything else.

Camille walked in, carrying two gift boxes. She greeted them with a bright smile, “Madam Pierce, Mr. Pierce.”

Hannah didn’t say a word.

Leo said, “Have a seat.” Then he called for the servant to bring some coffee.

“Camille, I heard you joined the project team at VirtuFusion Group?” Leo added.

Camille grinned, “Yeah, I used to work in the project team at the Oniohull branch. Spent the last two years abroad, learning and working in the same field. I still want to stick with this line of work.”

Leo nodded, “Sounds great. Just keep doing your best.”

“Thanks, Mr. Pierce,” Camille said with a smile. Then she asked, “Where’s Grayson? Isn’t he home today?”

‘Grayson usually comes back to Pierce Manor on weekends,’ Camille thought, ‘so I figured I’d try my luck. No way I’m going to Vernal Road. Grayson warned me last time, and I don’t want to piss him off again.”

Leo said, “He’s not home today.”

Hannah cut in, “He’s got a girlfriend now. He’s spending time with her.”

Camille’s smile froze for a moment.

Hannah was doing it on purpose, making sure Camille got the message loud and clear.

Camille made a quick exit after that.

Hannah said, “See? She’s obviously got her sights set on Grayson. Did you see her face when she found out he’s got a girlfriend?”

Leo said, “Now that Grayson’s taken, maybe she’ll finally move on.”

Hannah said, “Let’s hope so.”

Weekends were a rare treat for Eloise, so when she finally got one off, she grabbed Noah and planned a hiking trip.

Juliette had totally hyped up this spot. A small hill with easy trails, just right for a family day out.

After breakfast, they jumped in the car and set off. It was about thirty miles away, so it was going to be a bit of a drive. But less than half an hour into the drive, the car broke down.

Eloise couldn’t help but regret buying a used car now. People always said it was better to get a new one. While a good used car was possible, it was largely a matter of luck.

Looked like luck just wasn’t on her side. She hadn’t had the car long, and it had already been in an accident. Now it was broken down again.

She looked at Noah, feeling guilty. “Sorry, sweetie, looks like we won’t be able to go hiking today.”

Just then, someone knocked on the window. Eloise rolled it down and saw Grayson standing there.

‘Even here? Seriously, how do we keep running into each other?’ Eloise thought, amazed at how she kept bumping into Grayson no matter where she went.

What Eloise didn’t know was that Grayson had actually given Noah a call before they headed out. He’d asked what their plans were for the day. Noah told him he and Eloise were going hiking.

Grayson asked, “What happened?”

Eloise replied, “The car broke down.”

‘Rhys really sold her a lemon,’ Grayson thought.

“Don’t worry, I’ll make sure Rhys pays for this,” Grayson said.

Eloise didn’t say anything. ‘Seriously, what compensation? I only paid six grand for it. Bet the seller only knocked down the price because the car was already messed up.’

‘Used cars don’t come with a warranty, anyway. I really shouldn’t have gone for the bargain. Guess I can only blame myself. Guess I’ll just have to suck it up, Eloise sighed to herself.

Grayson turned away and made a call. After hanging up, he turned back to Eloise. “Get out of the car for now, I called a tow truck. It’ll be here soon.”

Eloise got out of the car, and Grayson scooped Noah up in his arms.

Eloise walked around to the back and popped the trunk, grabbing their backpack. It was packed with water and snacks, all ready for their hiking trip.

Grayson took her arm. “Hop in my car. I’ll drive you.”

Eloise paused for a moment before nodding.

Once they were in Grayson’s car, Grayson said, “Forget about your car, I’ll get someone to handle it.”

Then Grayson played dumb and asked, “So, where are you headed?”

Eloise thought for a second before asking, “Mr. Pierce, could you give us a ride to Kleim Hill?” That was the hiking spot Juliette had recommended to her.

Grayson shot her a look and nodded.

Eloise said, “Thanks, Mr. Pierce.”

Noah thought his mom was way too easy to fool.

Grayson said, “It’s a bit of a drive. If you’re tired, you can take a nap.”

Eloise replied, “I’m not tired.” Ten minutes later, she was already dozing off, her head leaning against the

window.

A smile touched Grayson’s lips.

“Eloise, wake up, we’re here,” Grayson said. His voice was low and deep, with a sexy, soothing tone.

Eloise opened her eyes and met Grayson’s gaze, his eyes sparkling with amusement. She was a little dazed.

Grayson pressed his finger into her cheek, leaving a cute little dimple. It was absolutely adorable. “Still half- asleep?” he teased.

Eloise shook herself awake, brushed his hand away, and stepped out of the car. Facing away from Grayson,

her cheeks flushed red.

Grayson absently rubbed his fingers together, the delicate feel of her skin still lingering.

Eloise opened the back door, lifted Noah out, and reached for the backpack. But before she could grab it, a large hand snatched it away.

Grayson gave the bag a quick swing and slung it over his shoulder.

Eloise said, “Mr. Pierce, can I take the bag? Thanks for giving us a ride.”

Grayson replied, “You guys are going hiking, right? I could use some exercise too. Since I’m here, I’ll join you. Let’s get moving, I’ll carry the bag for you.”

Eloise hadn’t expected what was supposed to be a hike for two to suddenly turn into a party of three.

It was the weekend, and the place was crawling with families. Most folks had brought their kids along for the hike. Some of the little ones were even younger than Noah.

Noah walked front, Eloise followed in the middle, and Grayson trailed behind with the backpack slung over his shoulder.

Before long, Eloise was trailing far behind Noah. Noah was a little powerhouse. His stamina was unreal. She just couldn’t keep up.

She kept going for a while, but eventually had to stop. She’d pushed herself too hard and was out of breath, so she paused to catch her breath.

Her legs were shaky and she nearly stumbled, but a strong hand caught her by the waist, steadying her from behind.

Eloise turned to see Grayson’s handsome face right next to hers. She mumbled, “Thanks,” her voice barely above a whisper.

Grayson made no move to take his hand away, so Eloise shifted to the side, slipping out of his grasp.
