Grayson Pierce and Eloise Caldwell novel Chapter 59

Chapter 59 Use Me However You Want

Eloise, Noah and Grayson were snacking and taking in the scenery. Before they realized it, they’d eaten all the food Eloise had brought.

While Eloise was tidying up the lunch boxes, others finally made it to the top one after another, red-faced and out of breath.

A woman walked over. “You guys are done eating, right?”

Eloise nodded.

The woman asked, “Can we sit on the rock for a while?”

“Sure,” Eloise said. She grabbed her bag and stepped aside so they could sit down.

Then Grayson took the backpack from Eloise.

The woman’s family sat down. She started chatting with Eloise. “How old are you? You look so young.”

Eloise replied, “I’m 26.”

The woman said, “You’re only 26 and your son is already so grown up? You started your family pretty early. Your husband looks young too. My husband and I are both 36, and our son is about the same age as your boy.”

Eloise didn’t dare look at Grayson, just gave an awkward smile.

The woman added, “Not many people your age have kids nowadays. You and your husband are both so good- looking, and your son is handsome too. He certainly takes after you both.”

The woman was getting more and more excited, so Eloise quickly moved away and pretended to look at the

view.

Several more families arrived, one after another. Noah ran over to play with a boy who looked like he was in grade school.

Grayson came to stand by Eloise’s side.

Eloise turned to him. “Grayson, I’m sorry for dragging you into this. I just didn’t want Noah to feel awkward, so I let that woman think whatever she wanted.”

Grayson stuffed his hands in his pockets. “It’s fine. Use me however you want. I get it.”

Grayson felt sorry for Noah. The boy had parents, but it was as if he was all alone in the world.

Noah had been living with Eloise for ages, and his mom and dad hadn’t come to get him, or even called once. Grayson thought Noah must feel pretty sad about it.

In that moment, Noah probably didn’t want anyone to know he wasn’t here with his parents.

Grayson had been through something similar before, so he knew how much it could hurt. Noah was still just a kid, so sensitive and in need of someone to protect him.

Eloise pressed her lips together, her heart genuinely moved.

Grayson asked, “What’s up with your brother and his wife? Even if they’re having issues, they shouldn’t just leave Noah out in the cold.”

“They’re in the middle of a divorce,” Eloise said. That was what Bobby had told her the last time they talked. Grayson frowned. “That’s just so irresponsible. Even if they’re getting divorced, they should keep Noah with them. How can they just leave him with you like it’s no big deal?

“Kids aren’t something they just have on a whim and then walk away from. Bringing a child into the world means stepping up and taking responsibility.”

Eloise didn’t know what to say.

Grayson said, “Noah is such a sweet kid. How could they be so heartless?”

She turned to look off into the distance. “Grayson, do you like Noah?”

Grayson answered without a second thought, “Yeah, I do.”

Eloise asked, “If Noah became your son, would you be okay with that?”

Grayson whipped his head around to look at her, his eyes swirling with emotion. ‘What does Eloise mean by that? Is she testing me?’ he wondered.

Noah was pretty much Eloise’s kid now. If he and Eloise ended up together, Noah would be part of their family.

‘Is she trying to find out if I’d treat Noah like my own son if we got together?’ Grayson wondered.

The thought made Grayson break into a surprised, happy grin. “Absolutely. I’ll treat Noah as if he were my own son. I promise,” he said.

“Grayson, Noah…” Eloise began, but her words were cut off by the sudden ring of Grayson’s phone.

He took out his phone and answered. Camille’s sobs came through the phone.

“Grayson, my stomach hurts so bad. Can you come save me?” Camille cried. “I can’t take it anymore. Grayson, please hurry.”

Grayson frowned. “I can’t come right now. Just tell me where you are, and I’ll call an ambulance for you.”

‘I’m in so much pain, and he doesn’t even care. How can he be so cold?’ Camille thought, feeling hurt and abandoned.

“Grayson, remember when I saved you before? Can’t you come just this once? I need you, I’m so helpless and it hurts so much,” Camille pleaded.

Grayson said, “I really can’t come. Just tell me your address.”

Camille hung up on him.

Grayson’s frown deepened. After thinking it over, he called his assistant. “Find out Camille’s address and send someone to check on her. If it’s serious, get her to the hospital.”

After he hung up, Grayson turned back to Eloise, concern in his eyes. “Hey, what were you about to say about

Noah?”

Eloise just shook her head, forcing a small smile. “It’s nothing, really.”

She noticed Grayson’s phone screen. Camille’s name was flashing on the caller ID.

Grayson couldn’t help but feel that Eloise seemed a bit more distant than before.

“Eloise, don’t worry. I’ll treat Noah well, I promise. And if we ever have kids of our own, I’ll treat them all equally,” Grayson said.

Eloise realized he’d gotten it all wrong. Then she just looked at him for a moment, not saying a word.

Grayson had no idea what she was thinking. “Eloise…” he said.

Eloise turned away from Grayson and walked over to Noah without another word. Grayson frowned, feeling

confused and a little hurt.

After they came down from the mountain. Grayson drove Eloise and Noah back to Maple Apartments.

The Bentley parked downstairs really stood out. People passing by couldn’t help but take a second look.

Eloise got out of the car, and Grayson had already carried Noah out. She said, “Thanks for everything today, Mr. Pierce.”

Grayson ruffled Noah’s hair. “Go on upstairs.” Then he turned to Eloise. “Your car should be ready by tomorrow.”

“Thanks, Mr. Pierce. Just let me know the address tomorrow and I’ll come get it,” Eloise replied.

Grayson didn’t say anything else. He just got back in the car and drove off.

Eloise watched the Bentley drive away, then took Noah’s hand and headed inside.
