Grayson Pierce and Eloise Caldwell novel Chapter 73

Chapter 73 Barely Used And Already Broken

Grayson didn’t even get a bite to eat before Hannah kicked him out the door. “Go figure it out,” she snapped.

Grayson dusted off his pants, at a loss for words. ‘Hannah’s temper is absolutely terrifying these days, Grayson thought.

He drove over to Maple Apartments. He knocked on the door for a while, but no one answered. Then he pulled out his phone and called Eloise.

Eloise had Noah tagging along as she shopped at the supermarket. They were running low on a bunch of everyday stuff, and they needed to stock up on some spices too.

She’d come to a supermarket that had just opened and was having a grand opening sale. Everything was dirt cheap and the place was swarming with people. Eloise didn’t even notice her phone ringing.

It wasn’t until she was checking out that she finally pulled out her phone and saw a dozen missed calls, all from Grayson.

After paying, she walked outside and called him back.

Grayson picked up instantly, sounding totally exasperated. “Where have you been? Why didn’t you answer your phone?”

“I’m just out shopping with Noah. Did you need something?” she replied.

“Which supermarket are you at?” Grayson demanded.

“We’re heading back soon,” Eloise replied.

Grayson hung up without another word.

Eloise just stared at her phone, totally confused. She shoved her phone into her bag and headed for the parking lot with her shopping bags.

When they got back to Maple Apartments, Eloise had just parked when Grayson was already heading her way. Eloise gave him a quick glance, then walked around to the trunk to grab her shopping bags.

Just as she closed the trunk, her hands suddenly felt lighter. Grayson had already taken the bag

Eloise bit her lip and said nothing.

Grayson stomped ahead, clearly pissed off.

Eloise held Noah’s hand and trailed behind.

her.

In the elevator, Eloise shot Grayson a couple of glances, but he just kept his poker face and totally ignored her.

Eloise hesitated, then explained, “The supermarket was packed. I didn’t even hear my phone ring.”

Grayson’s expression finally softened a bit. He took the chance to ask for a favor. “Can I get a spare key? I was stuck outside for ages and couldn’t even get in.”

Eloise turned away, making it clear she wasn’t going to agree.

Noah was barely holding back his laughter.

The elevator doors slid open, and Eloise was the first to walk out and unlock the door.

Grayson walked in, dropped the bags, and sprawled out on the couch like he owned the place.

Eloise didn’t even spare him a glance, just went about unpacking the groceries.

Later, Noah dragged Grayson off to play with Lego.

For lunch, Grayson had food delivered from a hotel restaurant.

Eloise wanted to cook, but Grayson stopped her. He was craving Eloise’s cooking, but her hand was s injured.

That afternoon, Colton Morley finally managed to drag Grayson away.

Colton had been trying to get Grayson to come over for days, but Grayson kept blowing him off. It took a whole lot of sweet-talking today before Grayson finally agreed to go.

At Pinecrest Club, Grayson walked straight up to Rhys and laid into him, kicking without holding back a single blow.

Rhys didn’t even try to dodge; he just stood there and took it. “Alright, Grayson, I messed up, okay? Just chill out,” he said quickly.

Grayson shot him a cold glare. “Rhys, you’ve got some guts, messing with my hand and even running off to my grandma behind my back.”

Luckily, Hannah liked Eloise, so she didn’t listen to anything Rhys said.

Rhys explained, “I had no idea Camille was behind all that. I just thought…”

Grayson interrupted him. “Thought what? You always think you know best, don’t you?”

“Come on, Grayson, I was just trying to help you out. Don’t be mad at me, alright?” Rhys pleaded.

Grayson scoffed. “Did I ever ask for your help? Use your brain for once, will you?”

“Grayson, that really hurts, you know,” Rhys said, sounding a little wounded.

“Rhys, let me make this clear. Eloise is the one for me. So you better show her some respect. If I ever hear you talk trash about her again, we’re done as friends.

“And another thing, what kind of piece of crap did you sell me? I barely drove it for a few days and it already broke down. You owe me for that,” Grayson snapped.

‘Buying a car is just a roll of the dice, Rhys thought. ‘Even brand-new rides can crap out after a few days. With used cars, no one really know what they’re gonna get. Now the deal’s done.’

But one look at Grayson’s icy expression told him it was no time to argue. Rhys just pulled out his phone without protest. “How much do you want?”

“60 thousand,” Grayson replied flatly.

Rhys gaped at him, lost for words. He’d sold that car for 50 thousand, and now Grayson wanted 60 thousand back. Not only did he lose the car, he was out an extra 10 thousand on top of it.

‘How is this even fair?’ Rhys thought, feeling totally ripped off.

“Thinking of not paying?” Grayson shot him a cold look.

“Alright, I’ll pay. Happy now?” Rhys blurted out, completely defeated.

Honestly, 60 thousand was pocket change for him. Sometimes he’d drop 300 thousand in a single night just hanging out. He just couldn’t help feeling like he was getting ripped off.

Rhys sent the 60 thousand to Grayson, who, without missing a beat, forwarded it straight to Eloise.

Grayson: [Got the used car shop to pay you back. I made this happen for you. If you really want to thank me, just hand over a spare key to your place.]

Eloise didn’t take the money. ‘No way anyone’s that dumb. I only paid six thousand for that car, and now they were offering me sixty thousand? Are they out of their minds?’

Colton jumped in to break the tension. “Alright, we’ve talked it out. We’re still friends, yeah? Let’s drink to that,” he said, trying to lighten things up.

Grayson kept his poker face, but at least he raised his glass.

Rhys finally relaxed. Grayson was pissed at him for running to Hannah behind his back. He’d been giving Rhys the cold shoulder for days and even blocked his number.

Colton kept trying to get Grayson to come out, calling him over and over, but Grayson just kept ghosting him. But today, Grayson finally graced them with his presence.

Grayson knocked back a couple of drinks, then checked his phone. Eloise still hadn’t accepted the money. He

frowned.

Rhys leaned in. “Is she not happy with the amount? Should I add another 300 thousand to it?”

Honestly, if it could patch things up between him and Grayson, money was the least of his concerns.

Grayson shot him a look. “Don’t go thinking for her with that brain of yours.”

Rhys kept his mouth shut.

Eloise was sound asleep when she thought she heard someone knocking at the door. She thought she must’ ve misheard, rolled over, and went right back to sleep.

Grayson kept knocking, but nobody answered. Finally, he pulled out his phone and called Eloise.

Eloise, still groggy, fumbled to pick up. “Hello?”

“Hey Eloise, open up,” Grayson called from outside the door.

Eloise was instantly wide awake.

When Eloise opened the door, Grayson just about toppled right onto her. She almost got bowled over by him.” Grayson, stand up straight,” she snapped.

Grayson let out a drunken burp and straightened up a bit. He sidestepped Eloise and made a beeline for the bedroom.

“Grayson,” Eloise called out. She didn’t want to wake Noah, so she kept her voice low.

She hurried after him, only to find Grayson already sprawled out on her bed, shoes kicked off and wrapped up in her blanket. “Man, this smells amazing…” he mumbled, sounding totally drunk.

She was both pissed and exasperated. She tried to rouse him. “Grayson, how about you go home? Want me to call you a ride?”

Grayson turned his head, his dark eyes locking onto her. “No way, I’m staying here tonight.”

Eloise said, “This is my place. It’s not right for you to sleep here.”

“Why not? Come on, Eloise, just sleep here with me,” Grayson said, patting the spot next t

The memories from five years ago came flooding back to her. They’d shared so many sweet moment’s together.

Eloise snapped out of the memory and looked at Grayson. There was no reasoning with a drunk. So she decided to let him stay for the night.

She grabbed a blanket from the closet, slipped out of the room, and quietly closed the door behind her. Grayson chased after her. “Eloise, where are you going?”

Eloise lay down on the couch. “You get the bed, I’ll take the couch,” she said.

“Eloise, the couch isn’t comfortable,” Grayson mumbled.

“Grayson, if you keep running your mouth, I’ll throw you out myself,” Eloise snapped.
