Chapter 79 Teamed Up To Trick Me
Eloise frowned. She didn’t have time to worry about who was investigating her. She was wondering if Grayson had seen the news by now.
‘Surely he knows Noah is his son now, Eloise thought.
“Eloise, are you okay?” Juliette asked.
Eloise snapped out of her thoughts. “Yeah, I’m fine.”
“With Grayson’s good looks and who he is, this story’s already blown up and hit number one on the trending topics. People are going to be talking about you everywhere. Get ready for it,” Juliette said.
“I know,” Eloise replied.
“And seriously, stay off the internet. Folks are just flaming you for no reason. No point in seeing that and getting upset,” Juliette added.
Eloise smiled. “Don’t worry, I won’t look.”
She wasn’t a masochist, and besides, the news was pure nonsense. Sure, she’d had Noah out of wedlock, but that wasn’t a crime. She’d never tried to get with Grayson or anything like that.
Juliette still wasn’t convinced. “How about I come over and hang out with you for a bit?”
Eloise smiled. “No, it’s fine. I’ve got work.”
“Work? Seriously, forget about it. Everyone at Hayes Group is probably gossiping about you like crazy. Just stay home with Noah. After everything that’s happened, can you leave him home alone?” Juliette said.
Juliette’s words really struck a chord with Eloise. She was still uneasy.
“Seriously, Juliette, you don’t have to come. I’ll just take the day off. I’m fine, you should go to work,” Eloise said.
Juliette could tell Eloise was holding up okay, so she didn’t insist.
As soon as Juliette hung up, Eloise’s phone rang again. Eloise froze, staring at the screen, her mind blank for a moment. Bad memories hit her. She felt like she couldn’t breathe, her chest tight and heavy.
She took a sip of water, pushing down that wave of discomfort, before finally picking up th Suddenly, she heard a voice she hadn’t heard in ages. Familiar, but it still made her tense u
“Look at what you’ve done. You’ve made me a laughingstock. Everyone in the neighborhood knows you had a kid out of wedlock, and now you’ve gone and made an even bigger fool of yourself.
“Can’t you just keep quiet for once and let me have some peace? Even if you insist on doing these disgraceful things, can’t you at least not let the whole world know?
“Maybe you don’t care about your reputation, but I do! And so do your brother and his wife,” her mother snapped.
Eloise’s chest tightened so much she could barely breathe. Her mom hadn’t called her in years.
Eloise had reached out a couple of times herself, but her mom never answered. She knew her mom wanted nothing to do with her, didn’t even want to see her.
After all these years with zero contact, her mom only called now just to tear into her.
Sometimes, Eloise wished her mom was just a stepmom instead of her real one. Maybe then it wouldn’t hurt so much. But Lorelei Caldwell was her real mom.
She just couldn’t understand why Lorelei seemed to hate her so much.
Her throat burned as she forced out the words, her voice rough. “Mom, if you think I’m such a disgrace just tell everyone I’m not your daughter. Say we’re not even related anymore.”
“So you really want to cut me off?” Lorele

Eloise let out a hollow laugh, her gaze bleak. “Does it even matter? It’s not like things would be any different,” she said.
Lorelei hung up without another word.
Eloise sat on the bed, staring blankly, lost in her thoughts.
Noah pushed the door open and hurried over. Seeing how pale she was, he took her hand, worry written all over his face. “Mom, are you not feeling well?”
Eloise brushed off those negative feelings and smiled at Noah. “Just a little bit, that’s all. So I’m taking the day off to hang out with you, sound good?”
Noah frowned. “Mom, if you’re not feeling well, I can take you to the doctor.”
Eloise chuckled. “It’s really just a tiny thing, no need for a doctor. If you let me give you a kiss, I’ll feel better right away.”
Noah leaned in, his little face serious. “Okay, you can kiss me.”
Eloise smiled, her eyes lighting up, and planted a kiss on his cheek. Still not quite satisfied, she nudged her face closer to him. “Why don’t you give Mommy a kiss too?”
Noah happily obliged, planting a big, noisy kiss right on her cheek. Then he gently cupped her face in his little hands, his eyes full of concern. “Mom, you have to take care of yourself, okay?”
Eloise’s worries melted away as she hugged Noah, a satisfied smile on her face.
After texting Beckett to let him know she was taking the day off, Eloise got out of bed and took Noah’s hand, leading him out of the room. “Let’s go, I’ll make you some breakfast,” she said.
During the morning rush hour, people on the road watched in shock as a Bentley blew through several red lights, speeding like crazy.
Grayson was racing toward Maple Apartments, while desperately trying to call Eloise. He must have dialed her number a dozen times, but she just wouldn’t pick up.
He’d gotten a call from Rhys early that morning. “Grayson, didn’t you say that kid was Eloise’s nephew? So why is the internet suddenly blowing up, saying he’s actually her son?”
n? I’ll have
Grayson frowned. “What kind of crap is this? Someone’s out there spreading lies about Finn dig up who’s behind it, and my lawyer will make sure they regret ever posting that.”
Rhys rolled his eyes. “Seriously, just look at the news. It’s everywhere online, and honestly, it looks real enough
to me.
“They’ve even got photos of Eloise with a baby bump, plus the hospital where she gave birth. Even the hospital name is out there. Those pics don’t look photoshopped at all.
“Grayson, you might’ve gotten played by Eloise again. She’s pulled stuff like this before, so you better be careful.”
Grayson frowned, hung up, and clicked on the link Rhys had just sent over.
In no time, his face went pale. He scrambled for his keys, nearly stumbling as he dashed out to his Bentley. The engine roared as he tore out of the villa.
‘No wonder I felt an instant connection with Noah the very first time I met him. I just couldn’t help but want to be near him, Grayson thought.
His grandma had said Noah looked just like him, and he hadn’t even put two and two together.
Thinking back, Eloise had tried to tell him something more than once, but she always got interrupted. And every single time, she mentioned Noah.
‘Was she trying to tell me Noah was my son all along? Damn, of course she was. How could I have been so clueless? I actually fell for that lie that Noah was Eloise’s brother’s kid, Grayson thought, kicking himself.
It should’ve been obvious. Noah looked just like Eloise, and now that he thought about it, the kid had his features too.

Noah was awkward around Eloise’s brother, and neither he nor his wife ever bothered with the boy at all.
Now, Grayson knew that why they didn’t care the kid. Noah wasn’t their kid. Hewas his and Eloise’s son.
