Chapter 27
After quite a while, Reginald finally let go
of me.
It was only then that he noticed something was wrong with me.
I helplessly pointed to my ear and said, “I’m deaf, Reginald.”
Then I saw his pupils suddenly tremble.
I raised my hand and gently patted his shoulder. “It’s okay, I’ll get a cochlear implant in a couple of days.”
It’s not that I’m particularly indifferent or carefree.
I just know that when faced with things that can’t be changed by effort, more sadness only hurts myself.
Just like this explosion, in the end, I still couldn’t avoid it.
I was still smiling, but Reginald’s eyes turned slightly red.
He followed me back to the new place my parents had found.
Reginald took pen and paper and wrote a long passage.
He said that on the morning of the explosion, he happened to be abroad handling some matters. After learning about the explosion in the class group chat, he immediately bought a plane ticket to
return.
But by the time he found out, several days had already passed, so he barely made it back on the day I was discharged from the hospital.
Reginald tried his best to express his concern for me in detail, but at that moment, I felt that words were somewhat unnecessary.
Because just by looking into his eyes, I could see how much he cared about me.
No one has ever looked at me like that, not even my own parents; when they look at me, that kind of emotion never appears in their eyes.
He stayed at my house the whole day, writing so much to communicate with me that his hand

went numb.
He exhausted himself trying to comfort me.

Finally, Reginald wrote, “I’ve decided not to go abroad. I want to stay here with
you.”
I looked at him, frowned, and couldn’t even bother to write, saying, “No!”
Judging by his surprised expression, I must have shouted quite loudly.
After becoming deaf, I couldn’t judge the volume of my own voice, so I became less talkative.
But I shouted again, “No!”
I wanted to emphasize my opposition.
Reginald looked confused and wrote on the paper, “Why? Don’t you want me to stay?”
I picked up
the
pen and wrote, “You shouldn’t give up any possibilities in your
life for anyone.”
My pen didn’t pause at all: “I don’t need anyone to accompany me. I can do it myself.”
That’s what I said, but Reginald’s expression clearly told me he hadn’t listened at all.
I know his personality well; although he seems carefree, he’s actually extremely stubborn.
Seeing that I couldn’t persuade him, I could only hold my head in pain.
When he saw that I seemed to have a headache from being angry with him, he finally nodded reluctantly.
At that moment, my mother walked into my room and said something to Reginald.
Judging by their expressions, she must have invited him to stay for dinner.
Georgia hadn’t come home yet, and I didn’t even need to ask to know she was definitely keeping watch in Calvin’s hospital room.
I couldn’t help but recall that critical moment when Calvin used all his strength to push her away.
Because of that, Georgia was unharmed, the only one among the three of us who wasn’t injured.
I lowered my eyes and smiled self–mockingly, inexplicably feeling a bitter taste in my mouth.
Well, at least this time, I wasn’t the obstacle in their relationship.

I stared at the patterns on the floor, unconsciously lost in thought
Suddenly, a cane appeared in my line of sight.
The person leaning on the cane had a cast on his left leg.
Instinctively, I looked up and saw Calvin.
He’s awake?
