He Didn’t Look for Me Until I Was Dead (by Durrin) novel Chapter 28

Chapter 28

I didn’t say anything, and Calvin just looked at me quietly, his eyes filled with something both familiar and strange to me.

His injuries hadn’t healed yet, so why was he discharged from the hospital?

I still hadn’t asked.

The next second, Georgia walked into my room and tugged at Calvin’s hand.

I didn’t know what they were talking about, nor was I interested in finding out.

I got up on my own and walked toward Reginald, who was waving at me.

Dinner was already set on the table.

He thoughtfully pulled out a chair for me, and after I sat down, he intended to sit beside me.

Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed that Reginald still hadn’t sat down.

So I turned my head, and saw Calvin, his expression somewhat dark.

From their expressions, it was clear that the atmosphere was as tense as it used to be, as if a confrontation could break out at any moment.

I reached out and tugged at Reginald’s sleeve, then patted the seat next to me.

Instantly, a look of delight appeared on his face. After happily sitting down beside me, he shot Calvin a triumphant glance.

Calvin’s expression darkened even further in an instant.

His eyes were swirling with emotions I couldn’t understand.

I looked at Georgia, who was standing by his side, holding onto him tightly, and then withdrew

my gaze.

Anyway, whatever he was thinking now had nothing to do with me anymore.

The dishes on the table were wonderful, and I couldn’t help but sigh inwardly with relief that I hadn’t lost my sense of smell or taste.

Otherwise, how much joy in life would I have lost?

Father and Mother kept serving us food, looking as harmonious as ever.

But I knew that this scene wouldn’t last long at all.

Perhaps because of the shock from the explosion, they were only putting on a show for Georgia and me during this period.

But it didn’t matter, because soon I would be leaving here for college.

By then, I would only see them a few times a year at most.

With my persuasion, Reginald eventually went abroad.

Before the semester started, Calvin often came to my house, looking as if he wanted to say something to me.

But every time, Georgia would appear just in time to pull him away.

I would either look away or close my eyes, deliberately drawing a clear line between us.

So I never did find out what Calvin really wanted to say to me.

Just like in my previous life, Calvin went to the police academy, while Georgia attended a university in the same city.

And as I had hoped, I was admitted to New York University.

I went to register at the school wearing my cochlear implant.

After that, I could only see him again every year during the New Year.

I once received a friend request from Calvin on WhatsApp, but I never accepted it.

Georgia would occasionally update her Instagram, and it was always about Calvin.

It seemed that, although the police academy was strict, Calvin would still meet up with Georgia during his holidays.

By then, my emotions about this had gradually faded away.

The entanglement between me and them had finally, truly come to an end.

Reginald, even while abroad, never lost contact with me.

He seemed to be very busy as well.

I hadn’t expected to see him at my graduation ceremony.

After giving my speech as the student representative, I glanced into the audience and saw Reginald holding a bouquet of flowers.

The auditorium was filled with thunderous applause, and everyone was immersed in the anticipation and reluctance of graduation.

Reginald, holding the flowers, made his way through the crowd toward me.

Compared to four years ago, he had grown much taller, and his whole demeanor had become much more mature.

But the smile he gave me when our eyes met was exactly the same as that of the young man in white from the past.

I smiled and stepped forward to greet him, just about to take the bouquet from Reginald’s hands.

But when I saw the figure behind him, I froze for a moment.

It was Calvin.
