He Gave Her My Eyes A Story of Final Sight novel Chapter 14

Theresia didn’t stick around. She slipped away as fast as she could.

From the gate, a man watched her leave, his expression unreadable. He pulled out his phone and spoke in a low, clipped voice. “Cancel my flight tonight. I’ll be staying in Harrisburg for now.”

“Yes, sir,” came the reply.

Theresia was running on empty. She’d just had the procedure, barely slept the night before, and every step felt heavier than the last. Her phone buzzed with a message. One of the private investigators she’d reached out to finally got back to her. He agreed to take the case, but his fee was sky-high. She didn’t blame him. Investigating someone as powerful as Lawrence wasn’t just expensive—it was dangerous. One wrong move and it could cost him everything.

Theresia agreed right away. Money wasn’t what mattered. He was the only one willing to help her at all.

Three years ago there was the car accident, then the hospital cover-up. Lawrence and Patti owed her answers for all of it.

Once she sent the deposit, Theresia went to her bedroom to get some clean clothes. That’s when she realized she was still wearing the jacket the driver had lent her earlier. She’d been in such a rush, so lost in her thoughts, that she’d forgotten to give it back.

Maybe the driver would remember and come by for it. She draped the jacket over the end of the bed and headed to the bathroom.

After a quick shower, she crawled into bed. She was beyond exhausted, both body and soul.

About an hour passed. The quiet was broken by the sound of a car pulling up and the engine cutting off. Lawrence was back.

He’d spent the night at the hospital, hadn’t slept a wink. The exhaustion showed in his bloodshot eyes. After dropping Patti off at the Baker house, he’d rushed home.

Theresia had caused a scene in front of everyone. She owed Patti an explanation, and Lawrence wasn’t about to let that go.

As soon as he stepped inside, Susan hurried over to take his coat and fetch his slippers.

“Where’s Theresia?” he asked.

Susan replied without thinking much. “She got home not long ago. I think she’s sleeping now. Pregnant women get tired easily.”

He had to admit, Theresia had a figure that was hard to forget. He didn’t love her, not really, but he liked having her next to him.

He remembered their wedding night. He’d gone into it ready to punish her for Patti’s sake, determined to make her suffer. But then he found out she was a virgin. He didn’t know why, but something softened in him in that moment, and after that, he just couldn’t keep away.

He sat down on the edge of the bed, his hand reaching out almost on its own to brush her hair back from her face. “As long as you don’t mess with Patti, you’ll always be my wife.”

He figured he’d wait until she woke up to talk to her.

Just as he turned to leave, he stopped.

At the foot of the bed, something caught his eye. A jacket was draped there.

A man’s jacket.
