He Gave Her My Eyes A Story of Final Sight novel Chapter 16

He wouldn’t feel sorry for her. He’d just think she brought it all on herself.

Suddenly, Theresia laughed out loud.

Patti loved her drama, always making herself look like the poor little victim and painting Theresia as the heartless villain. Well, since Theresia was almost out of Harrisburg for good, why not give Patti exactly what she wanted, just this once?

“Alright, I’ll go with you,” she said.

Lawrence let out a heavy sigh, like he’d been holding his breath for hours. At least she agreed. If Theresia had refused, he honestly had no idea what he would have done.

Theresia had been complaining about being hungry, but now she couldn’t even think about food. She just stared out the window, silent the whole way from Verdant Heights to the Baker estate.

The car ride was thick with tension. Lawrence tried to break the ice. “Theresia, when you do something wrong, you need to apologize. You’re my wife, and you have to take responsibility for your actions.”

His words were almost funny. She’d heard this kind of self-righteous talk from him before, but somehow she’d never realized just how fake it all was.

She didn’t say a word. Lawrence reached for her hand. She tried to pull away on instinct, but he wouldn’t let go. “Theresia, it was wrong of me to hit you yesterday. I’m sorry. I just lost control because I was so worried about you.”

Her face stayed blank. She just asked quietly, “Lawrence, if Patti had pushed me down the stairs, would you have lost control and slapped her too?”

The silence that followed was suffocating.

That said everything.

Theresia let out a bitter smile, closed her eyes, and turned her head toward the window.

The drive went by in a blur, and soon they arrived at the Baker house.

The maid at the door didn’t bother hiding her attitude. “You’ve got some nerve showing up here. Are you not satisfied until you’ve ruined Patti’s life?”

For once, Theresia didn’t swallow the insult. She shot the maid a cold look. “Wow, you’re quick. Maybe you should join a quiz show.”

The maid froze, caught off guard. Had Theresia lost her mind? Since when did she talk back?

This kind of behavior.

Theresia could feel her heart splintering. Three years with this man. She’d never realized how wrong she’d been about him.

Fine. If they wanted an apology, she’d give them one to remember.

Patti beamed and stepped closer, reaching out to take Theresia’s hand. “Theresia, I forgive you. We’re still good sisters, right?”

As she smiled, something cold and nasty flickered in her eyes. She leaned in close, her voice barely above a whisper, only for Theresia to hear.

“You’re finally learning, aren’t you? About time you figured out who’s in charge.”

“Oh, does your face still hurt? Felton really didn’t hold back with that kick. Shame he missed your stomach, though. If he’d aimed there, your little bastard would be dead by now.”

A split second later, the sound of a slap rang out, sharp and clear, echoing through the room.
