The evening breeze carried a hint of chill, sweeping away the tangle of longing that clouded his mind.
Nancy finished helping Teresa change and quietly closed the bedroom door. By then, Garry was back in the living room.
“Garry, I’ve changed her clothes. She’s sleeping well now,” Nancy said.
Garry glanced toward the bedroom, his eyes lingering with a gentle warmth. “Thank you, Nancy.”
Ever since Garry bought this apartment, Nancy had looked after the place. They’d known each other for ten years now.
She smiled, her tone teasing but warm. “Garry, she’s the one you’ve been waiting for, isn’t she? The girl in your heart.”
Garry was good-looking, powerful, and wealthy, but never once had a woman appeared by his side. Nancy remembered asking him, only once, what kind of girl he liked.
He’d been having breakfast. When she asked, he set down his knife and fork.
Nancy could still picture his face that morning, more serious than she’d ever seen him. “I only like her. However she is, that’s the kind of girl I like.”
That was when Nancy realized just how devoted he could be.
Now, Garry just gave a quiet hum. “She’s the girl in my heart. Always has been. Always will be.”
Nancy felt genuinely happy for him. “Congratulations. Just don’t forget to invite me to the wedding.”
Garry’s expression clouded, a shadow crossing his features.
He didn’t say another word.

The next morning, Teresa woke up with a pounding headache.
If anything, that just made Teresa blush harder.
She’d been married. She wasn’t clueless. She could tell if anything had happened or not.
Still, it surprised her to realize Nancy had changed her.
Teresa poked her spoon into the porridge. “Oh.”
Garry watched her, his eyes lingering on her delicate features.
He looked like he wanted to say something, but the words never came.
Teresa finished her breakfast quickly and slipped back into the bedroom. She planned to change into her own clothes. But as she took off what she was wearing, she suddenly noticed a few hickeys of different shades just below her collarbone.
Her mind went completely blank.
