He Gave Her My Eyes A Story of Final Sight novel Chapter 227

Teresa reacted without thinking, her elbow slamming hard into Felton’s chest.

He hadn’t seen it coming. The hit knocked the wind out of him, and while he was still catching his breath, Teresa had already slipped from his grasp.

He glared at her, furious. “Teresa, whether you admit it or not, the Baker family raised you. That’s a debt you’ll never be able to pay back. You owe us for life.”

She rolled her eyes. Same tired speech. She’d heard it so many times, it barely registered anymore.

Standing her ground, she let out a little scoff, her gaze sharp. “So what? You really came all the way from Harrisburg to Veridian just to give me a lecture?”

Felton’s pride kept him quiet for a moment. There were things he didn’t want to say out loud, but he didn’t have a choice.

He frowned, face tight with frustration. “Mom’s sick. She needs money for treatment. I need you to give me a million.”

Last time, Leila had attacked Naomi with a knife. The cut was barely a scratch, not even serious enough for minor charges. In the end, Leila spent thirty days in detention, and by now, she should be out.

Teresa’s smile turned cold. “So that’s it. You’re here for money.”

Felton’s eyes flashed with anger. Hearing her say it out loud stung in a way he wasn’t used to. He’d never felt so humiliated.

If his old friends hadn’t turned him down for a loan, if he hadn’t gotten tangled up in Eric’s mess, he’d never have come to Teresa for help.

“The Baker family took you in and raised you,” Felton pressed. “Now Mom needs your help, and you’re acting like it’s a burden? This is the least you could do.”

Leila didn’t bother with greetings. “Did you find Teresa? Did she give you the money?”

Felton let out a long, tired breath, frustration bubbling over. “Yeah, I found her. She wants nothing to do with us anymore. She wouldn’t give me a cent.”

Leila’s voice turned shrill. “That heartless bitch. If I’d known she’d turn out like this, I should have smothered her at birth.”

“Mom, saying stuff like that doesn’t help,” Felton said, trying to keep his voice steady. “Dad already moved all the family money and handed it over to that other woman. The Baker Group’s bankrupt, I got kicked out of the military, Patti’s still stuck inside. I’ve tried everything I can. I really don’t have any more options. I can’t get any money.”

Leila’s tone grew even harsher. “So what, you’re just going to leave me to die? I’m your mother, Felton. You can’t just walk away from me.”

There was more to Felton’s story, secrets Leila had no intention of ever revealing. With Patti gone, Felton was all she had left, and she couldn’t risk him ever learning the truth.
