Lawrence grabbed his phone again, hands shaking so badly he could barely hold it. In twenty-eight years, he’d never felt this terrified. Not once. His forehead was slick with sweat, veins standing out as he forced out the words, voice low and cold. “Find Theresia. Right now. I want to know exactly where she is.”
On the other end, Aaron was caught off guard. Theresia was missing? He didn’t dare ask what happened. “Yes, Lawrence.”
Lawrence just stood there, frozen. He fished out a cigarette, but his hands wouldn’t stop trembling. He tried lighting it, over and over, and failed every time. Frustrated, he finally snapped, tearing through the bedroom, smashing everything in reach.
He was still breathing hard when Aaron called back. “Lawrence, Theresia erased all her records. We can’t find her right now.”
Lawrence exploded. “Useless.” He hurled his phone against the wall. It shattered instantly.
Theresia didn’t want him anymore? That couldn’t be real. She’d said she’d be with him forever, love him for a lifetime. How could she just walk away? The pain in his chest was sharp, suffocating. He could barely breathe.
Why did it hurt so much? Even at Patti and Jared’s wedding, he hadn’t felt pain like this.
He pressed his fingers to his brow, mind racing. Suddenly, he thought of someone.
No hesitation. Lawrence stormed out, jumped in his car, and floored it.
At the Cole Estate, a servant hurried in. “Hanson, Lawrence wants to see you.”
Hanson was in the middle of dinner. He set his chopsticks down, eyes turning icy. “He got here faster than I thought.”
The servant asked, “Should I let him in?”
Lawrence swung first, fist connecting with Hanson’s jaw. Hanson fought back, catching Lawrence hard on the mouth. They went at it, fists flying, neither one holding back.
Lawrence’s voice was rough, furious. “Tell me where Theresia is, or I’ll take down the whole Cole family with you.”
Hanson spit blood, eyes burning. “Even if it means the entire Cole family goes down, I’ll never tell you anything. She’ll never forgive you, Lawrence. Not after what you did. From the second you set her up three years ago, took her corneas for Patti, you lost her forever. She will never forgive you. Not in this life.”
Lawrence froze. For a moment, the world just stopped.
She knew?
