He Gave Her My Eyes A Story of Final Sight novel Chapter 50

Maisie didn’t say anything, and Theresia took her silence as agreement.

Maisie kept her eyes on her paintbrush, swirling colors in her palette. “You should leave. I’m not helping you. Don’t come back.”

If things between Patti and Maisie were just about money, it would have been simple. But it was never just that.

Patti had a hold on Maisie because Maisie owed her, plain and simple.

Maisie had been born with a problem in her leg. Her parents died in a car accident when she was just a baby, so she grew up with her grandfather. When Maisie was ten, her grandfather remarried. He didn’t live long after that, though. Cancer took him within a few years. Maisie thought her step-grandmother would leave her behind and go back to her own kids, since they weren’t really family. But she didn’t. She stayed and took care of Maisie.

That decision cost her. Her own children cut her off completely. Years later, when she got seriously ill and needed a lot of money for treatment, her kids refused to help. That was when Patti showed up and paid for everything.

From then on, Maisie and Patti had an unspoken deal. Patti bought Maisie’s paintings, and Maisie kept quiet about it.

That’s why no matter how many times Hanson tried to pressure her or tempt her, Maisie never broke.

Maisie’s hand froze, paintbrush hovering midair. She looked up, doubt flickering in her eyes. “What do you mean?”

Theresia stood and set her phone on the table in front of Maisie, opening the email from Hanson. “The truth is, Patti’s so-called kindness was just a trap. She started planning the moment she noticed your talent. The evidence shows your grandmother only had a minor heart problem. If she’d taken her meds and kept a regular routine, she would have been fine. She never needed surgery. And your aunt and uncle—they were bribed by Patti. She made sure they didn’t help with the hospital bills so you’d have nowhere to turn. She wanted you to be grateful, Maisie. She wanted to control you, to use you.”

Maisie stared at the screen, reading the medical records, watching the video of her aunt and uncle admitting the truth. Shock filled her wide eyes, quickly replaced by anger.

“She tricked me,” Maisie said, her voice trembling with fury.
