She kept those thoughts to herself around Leila. Patti took a slow breath, weighing her options, and finally decided she’d ask Jared for help a little later.
Just as she was getting up to head over to the James family’s place, her phone started ringing.
Already feeling on edge, she snapped as she answered, “Who is this?”
A polite voice replied, “Hi, is this Patti? This is Jackson from The Muse’s Atelier. I heard you’re looking for a venue for your art exhibition?”
Patti’s whole expression changed. Jackson. The famous Jackson, owner of The Muse’s Atelier. That gallery was one of the top spots in Harrisburg. Only big-name artists ever got to show their work there.
Thanks to Theresia, Patti’s reputation was in shambles. Even the smallest galleries didn’t want to rent her space, let alone a place like The Muse’s Atelier. She hadn’t even dared to ask them.
Trying to hide how excited she was, Patti answered, “Yes, I am. Jackson, does this mean you’re willing to rent the gallery to me?”
He sounded easygoing. “That’s right, Patti. If you’re interested, you can come by tomorrow and have a look at the space.”
Patti almost let out a squeal. But then something didn’t add up. “Wait, Jackson, I never contacted you. How did you know I needed a venue?”
Jackson replied, “A friend of yours mentioned you were having trouble finding a gallery and asked me to help out.”
A friend? Who could that be?
Jackson went on, “Anyway, Patti, just give me a call before you come by tomorrow.”
With the venue secured and Maisie’s paintings almost ready, Patti just needed a few famous artists and big names to show up and support her. If she could pull off this exhibition, she’d finally have a shot at making a comeback.
Confident, she hooked her arm through Leila’s and smiled. “Mom, I promise, I won’t let you down this time.”
The next day came in a blur. Theresia picked out a yellow floral sundress, just like Farris had suggested. He’d told her his mom didn’t like girls who dressed too sexy or trendy. She liked cute and playful. This dress would definitely do the trick.
Farris had already sent her the address. Theresia hopped in a cab, then halfway there, realized she should pick up a gift.
She searched on her phone for the nearest health supplement shop, thinking she’d bring along something thoughtful.
As soon as she got to the store, a sales assistant greeted her and led her toward the right section. Theresia was about to follow, but something caught her eye and her eyes went wide with surprise.
