He Gave Her My Eyes A Story of Final Sight novel Chapter 81

Even from thirty feet away, Theresia could easily recognize the man sitting, stiff and poised, in the back seat of the sleek black Maybach. It was Lawrence.

For a moment, her anger burned hotter than ever. Was he really so heartless? Would he even go after a student who hadn’t graduated yet?

Inside the car, Lawrence met her gaze through the windshield. Their eyes locked. He knew she’d seen him.

Just a little while ago, Aaron had told him Theresia had tracked down the witness from the crash years ago and was already on her way to Silverpine. Lawrence had come straight after her, no hesitation. He couldn’t risk leaving behind any evidence that could hurt him. It wasn’t about being afraid of dying. He just wanted to spend his life with Theresia, nobody else. He needed to stay alive, for her. Nothing could happen to him.

Maybe Theresia wouldn’t understand right now, but he was sure she loved him. If he tried hard enough, showed her how much he cared, she would forgive him for everything he’d done.

“Drive,” Lawrence said.

The Maybach turned and slid out of sight, quiet as a shadow.

At that very moment, the ambulance finally arrived.

Theresia didn’t have time to even think about confronting Lawrence. Besides, just being at the scene didn’t prove anything against him.

She pushed all that away for now and followed Webb into the ambulance, heading straight to the hospital.

Webb’s injuries were bad. Theresia paced outside the operating room for what felt like forever. Three hours passed, the red surgery light never going off.

It had been so long since she’d felt this anxious. She couldn’t stop moving, guilt gnawing at her with every step. If it hadn’t been for her, Webb wouldn’t have ended up in this mess.

Still, at the end of the day, the real person to blame was Lawrence.

The thought made her shiver.

After nine long hours, the doctors finally managed to save Webb. It felt like a miracle.

Through the glass, Theresia watched him in the ICU, still unconscious but breathing, monitors beeping steadily. Relief washed over her, at least for a moment.

She didn’t trust him completely. In that split second, though, he was the only person she could think of who might actually help. She’d only wanted to try, figuring she’d come up with something else if he said no.

She never imagined he’d agree without even asking for details.

Leaning against the wall, she kept watch on the ICU door, terrified something else might go wrong.

Half an hour later, she heard footsteps coming closer and looked up, meeting Garry’s eyes.

He was already here? Was he in Silverpine all along?

He walked straight to her. Before she could even come up with something to say, he scooped her up into his arms.

Theresia’s face turned red, her voice sharp and annoyed. “Garry, put me down.”

He didn’t let her go. His brow was knit tight, face set and serious. “You can talk to me while we walk.”
