She looked at the man sitting by the window. He was scheduled to make his grand appearance in the main hall soon.
"How is the task I gave you coming along?"
The man threw her a dismissive glance before looking away again. "Give it a few more months."
Lydia frowned in obvious displeasure, taking a sharp breath. "Why is it taking so long just to ruin one woman? Shouldn't this be effortless for you?"
The man let out a dark chuckle. "If you doubt my methods, Ms. Thorne, feel free to find someone else. But I've already invested my time, and you're going to compensate me for it. Otherwise..."
"You!"
Lydia was livid, but she was the one who had sought him out in the first place.
Gritting her teeth, she knew she had no choice but to play by his rules. The man was dangerously uncontrollable, and it infuriated her. "I'll wait for the day you succeed. I've already handed over all the intel you asked for. I expect you not to disappoint me."
His club hoarded scandalous secrets, and to secure his cooperation, Lydia hadn't just handed over devastating insider gossip—she had practically gifted him a massive Thorne family project. It took a double-pronged offering to get him to handle this personally.
He smirked, spinning his phone in his hand. "Relax. I always deliver on my promises. She's just not that easy to break. You'll understand eventually."
Seeing his absolute confidence, Lydia finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Remembering that Juniper was still somewhere in the building, she added, "Go cause some trouble for Juniper tonight."
"Ms. Thorne, I am not your pet dog."
As he said this, he slowly stood up and invaded her personal space. "But don't you have a very loyal dog of your own? You can send him."
Lydia's face paled instantly. Her relationship with that particular man was a heavily guarded secret. How the hell did he know?
It hit her then—he was threatening her. If she kept barking orders at him, he might just leverage other secrets he had against her.
Forced to swallow her pride, she turned and left without another word.
Out in the corridor, her expression was venomous. She glared in the direction of the Archives, her fists clenched tight.
Fine. She would wait until after Nelson's birthday. Besides, her mother was already pressuring Beatrice Lane. The Lane family would make their move soon enough.
