He settled into his office chair, his attitude as effortlessly composed as ever.
Lately, he had barely given her the time of day, but today, there was a rare hint of a smile in his tone. "I got caught up with something last night."
Lydia's hands slowly balled into fists at her sides. Her gaze zeroed in on his neck.
There were no marks.
If he had done that kind of thing, there surely would have been some evidence left behind.
She forced a smile. "I left all the files on your desk. Let me know when you've looked them over."
"Will do."
Lydia turned and walked out of the office, her expression turning thunderous. She immediately called her contact at the villa to find out exactly what time Nelson had come home the night before.
She had informants planted there, and she frequently brought Josie over to visit, acting like she was the lady of the house.
"Sir came home early, but..."
The staff member hesitated, stammering before finally confessing, "Ms. Lane came over last night. She didn't leave until ten this morning."
Lydia felt the blood drain from her face. Fury sparked and blazed into an uncontrollable inferno. Her nails dug deeply into her palms.
That bitch!
That absolute slut!
She was losing her grip on her sanity.
The rage boiled violently in her chest until she felt like she was burning alive.
Taking a ragged breath, she marched downstairs, got into her car, and sped straight to the hospital where Walter was admitted.
Earlier that day, the hospital had received word that the overseas facility was willing to lend their state-of-the-art medical equipment. Along with the machines, six world-renowned specialists in the field were flying in.
This particular type of rare tumor was something most researchers had never even seen in person, yet now, six top-tier experts were suddenly making the trip.
