She calmly pushed him away. "Then please don't touch me."

Nelson chuckled darkly, releasing her. "Making demands now, are we?"

Feeling irritated, she turned to open the door. Caleb was probably finished by now.

"Don't you want a drink?" Nelson asked.

"No thanks."

She opened the door and walked out. A few people occasionally came upstairs, and the corridor was thick with the scent of fine wine, but the majority of the guests were still downstairs.

The night's main agenda was wine tasting, charity auctions, and networking.

The first floor was crowded. As Juniper stepped out from the stairwell, she noticed a group of a dozen or so women glaring at her. The contempt in their eyes was entirely undisguised. As she walked past, one of them spat, "Disgusting slut!"

Juniper stopped in her tracks and turned to look at the woman.

Her name was Ivana Holloway. She had recently divorced her husband, and the woman who had seduced him happened to share a similar aura to Juniper's.

She had come to the charity gala tonight to clear her head, only to run into the exact same kind of shameless behavior.

"Were you just cursing at me?"

Juniper frowned, recalling the slightly hostile stares when she first arrived. Even then, no one had dared hurl verbal abuse at her like this.

Ivana's lips curled into a mocking sneer before she abruptly tossed the contents of her wine glass straight at Juniper.

"Who else would I be cursing? You were just upstairs messing around with multiple men! Don't think we didn't see you!"

The wine splashed across Juniper's face and dripped down the front of her pale blue dress.

She closed her eyes for a brief second, then grabbed a full glass from a passing tray and threw it directly into Ivana's face.

"I'm sorry, I have no idea what you're talking about. But if you throw a drink at me for no reason, I'm throwing one back!"
