Forrest froze, clearly shocked that Juniper knew about that.
Panic seized him, and he scrambled backward on the ground. "Who the hell are you?!"
His family's newfound wealth was a heavily guarded secret. His father had even gone so far as to remove him from the family registry just to keep him safe. He hadn't been back to Oakley once. How could someone track him down out of nowhere?
Juniper's face was deathly pale, but she stood her ground, staring him down. "Can you still contact your dad?"
She needed to know where Director Vane was hiding.
Forrest was terrified out of his mind. His dad had warned him over and over never to let anyone connect them. If the people backing the psychiatric hospital ever found out, they would eliminate them completely.
"I don't know! Since he went abroad, I haven't been able to reach him. He might be dead. He knows too many secrets; they probably killed him. My dad kept me out of it to protect me!"
His legs shook violently as he spoke.
Juniper had suspected that Director Vane might already be dead.
If Yvonne Saint had a hand in what happened at the Blackwood Institute, someone as meticulous as Yvonne wouldn't leave loose ends.
A living witness was the biggest loose end of all.
"I swear I don't know anything else. I don't even know that woman's name."
He was trembling so hard he couldn't stand up.
Juniper turned around. Nelson was waiting a short distance away. He held an unlit cigarette between his fingers; he hadn't planned to smoke it, he just needed something to do with his hands.
He crushed a loose pebble beneath his leather shoe, his eyes never leaving Juniper.
Seeing her turn around, he tossed the unlit cigarette aside and closed the distance. "I'm taking you to the hospital."
