Julian loved gossip, especially when it involved his close friends.
When he walked out earlier, he had genuinely heard the sound of a headboard banging against the wall. Any idiot could guess what was happening next door. It was barely past six in the morning—you had to admire their stamina. They had probably been at it all night, while Zara had been in her room entirely alone.
For some strange reason, Julian found himself wondering how someone as rigid and pragmatic as Zara would react to hearing all that noise.
"Nelson, have you ever met Finn's wife?"
Nelson was irritable, wishing he could just hop on a speedboat and leave right now. But making such a scene would inevitably invite a grueling interrogation from the Saint family. "I barely came back over the last four years. How would I know?"
As he spoke, he pulled out the hearing aid and studied it carefully in his palm.
He still remembered the look of pure excitement in Juniper's eyes when he first gave it to her.
He had deliberately hidden a small note inside it back then. The note was probably still there. With her clueless nature, she never would have discovered the hidden compartment. He stared at it in silence, completely tuning out Julian's grating voice.
"Is that a hearing aid? The only person I know who wears one of those is Juniper. Seriously, Nelson, aren't you sick of yourself? Staring at a hearing aid like some lovestruck teenager? Isn't she on the yacht? If you want to see her, just go find her. And don't even try to tell me that bite mark on your jaw wasn't from her."
Just as the words left his mouth, a scuffle broke out nearby between two men.
One of them was shoved violently backward, crashing right into Nelson. Caught off guard, Nelson's hand jerked, and the hearing aid slipped from his grasp, bouncing off the deck and plummeting straight into the river.
His face darkened instantly. Without a second thought, he vaulted over the railing and dove into the water.
Julian's eye twitched violently as shouts erupted around them. "Someone fell in! Someone else went overboard!!"
The two men who had been fighting turned pale with terror the moment they saw Nelson jump, convinced they had just signed their own death warrants.
The yacht was incredibly high off the water. When Nelson had rescued Josie earlier, the crew had to lower a ladder. Even worse, the massive propellers were churning just below the surface; getting sucked in would be fatal.
Julian cursed under his breath and ordered the crew to lower the ladder and deploy a lifeboat.
Nelson dove under the surface multiple times but couldn't spot the small device.
The buoyancy was strong; it couldn't have sunk that fast.
He dove down again, holding his breath as he frantically searched the dark water.
