Julian noticed her standing there, but didn't think there was anything wrong with what he had said. Instead, he casually asked, "How's Josie doing?"
Lydia forced a strained smile. "She just doesn't want to talk. I doubt she'll be able to attend school for a while. She needs to stay home and recover."
She walked over to Nelson and glanced at the hearing aid clenched in his fist. "Do you want me to contact a friend to see if it can be repaired?"
Nelson frowned. He didn't want anyone else meddling with this specific memory. "No need."
Lydia felt as though she had been slapped yet again. She gritted her teeth, though her face remained a mask of gentle concern. "You should go check on Josie. She didn't sleep at all last night. She's just hugging her knees and refusing to speak to anyone."
Nearly drowning twice was far too much trauma for a four-year-old to process.
Nelson strode briskly toward Josie's room. Behind him, he heard Julian's nosy voice ask, "What are those marks by your collarbone? I don't remember seeing those before."
Was Julian seeing things?
Nelson casually tugged his collar up, his tone flat. "It's nothing."
He headed upstairs, completely indifferent to the fact that his soaking-wet, sculpted frame was drawing admiring stares from everyone he passed.
Once he was out of earshot, someone finally whispered, "I saw it clearly. He had a bite mark on his jaw, and his chest was covered in scratch marks. Tall, gorgeous, and rich—Lydia really has it all."
"That face is absolutely flawless. Aside from his bad temper, the man has zero flaws."
"When I think about how he and Lydia had a child, I get sick with jealousy."
"Hahaha, speaking of which, Lydia is practically the ultimate winner in life. Even if she doesn't marry Nelson, the Harrington family clearly wants her to join their ranks. Didn't the Harrington heir used to have a massive crush on her? I heard he pursued her aggressively, but she turned him down, and it made things incredibly awkward for everyone."
"That guy has a terrible temper too—even worse than Nelson's. Yet both of them are deeply obsessed with Lydia. I swear, she must have saved the galaxy in her past life."
