He Gave Me Hearing, Then Taught Me What Silence Really Means novel Chapter 388

The woman nodded. "Not bad."

He didn't know what to say and lowered his eyelashes.

The woman looked up at him and asked, "Busy with work?"

"It's alright."

The brief conversation ended, and he looked away. "I'll get going, then."

"Finn."

She called his name, her tone serious. "I don't want to hear those rumors."

Finn's heart skipped a beat, and he quickly replied, "I know."

After saying that, he lifted his foot and walked toward the door. When he reached it, he turned back to look at her.

They had grown up together. When he was a child living at her house, they had truly depended on each other for survival.

For every beating she took, he took one too.

Back then, he didn't have the ruthless methods he had now. He was always beaten to tears, and she would shield him with her body, taking the brunt of the blows until she was half-dead.

This happened countless times; she always loved shielding him.

All the protection Finn had received in this life probably came from her.

Her back was a tragic sight, covered in crisscrossing scars that hadn't healed to this day.

She had endured too many beatings back then, new wounds overlapping old ones, and there was never any medicine. Sometimes when it got infected and oozed pus, she just had to endure it.

From when they were five years old to now, they had known each other for twenty-three years.

They had made it through the hardest times, but now he had several women on the outside.

They were all very uninhibited in bed, unlike her.

Touching them felt different from touching her, too.

But he knew those women couldn't compare to her, and they could never cause a scene in front of her.

He looked away. He should have left, but he couldn't help asking, "Do you want me to do my husbandly duties today?"

The woman's gaze swept over him, seemingly inspecting something.

He looked away, thought for a moment, and explained, "I haven't slept with anyone this week. I'll go take a shower?"

With that, he headed toward the bathroom.

As he washed, he looked at himself in the mirror.

There were no marks on his body. He never let people leave marks on him.

When he came out, he saw her sitting in a rocking chair, slowly swaying. She held a rustic palm-leaf fan, the breeze rustling her hair. Outside was the lotus pond she had cultivated.

Most of Finn's money was with her.

When they first got married five years ago, she had gone out to find a location to build the manor. Finn didn't really want to see her often, and she noticed. All she said was, "From now on, ninety percent of your money goes to me."

He didn't argue. He thought she was right. After staying by his side all these years and protecting him so many times, she couldn't walk away with neither a person nor any money.

So to this day, his bank account never exceeded three hundred thousand dollars in spare change. For the heir of a prominent family, this was unimaginable.

Aside from Finn, no one knew where all that money went. She made him draft a will stating that if anything happened to him, all his current shares would go to her. Finn found he couldn't really refuse these demands, even though outsiders might think they were outrageous. After all, how could family shares be handed over to a woman? The sheer wealth involved was staggering.
