She took a deep breath; this matter had to be resolved as soon as possible.
But that evening, Nelson stormed into the house.
"Mom, where did you take Juniper?"
Nelson's face was terrifying. It was the first time he had stared at her so darkly and seriously.
Yvonne thought she misheard and furrowed her brow. "What did you say?"
Nelson violently kicked over the coffee table next to him. "Juniper! I'm asking you where you took Juniper!"
Furious, Yvonne raised her hand and slapped him hard across the cheek. "Who do you think you're talking to right now?!"
Just as she spoke, a few men were dragged inside.
Yvonne's face fell. These were the people she had sent out that morning. Did Nelson catch them red-handed?
The four men had been beaten severely, their faces pale with fear. "We really didn't grab Ms. Lane! We were going to make a move, but she wasn't in the car. We were searching everywhere when you showed up, Boss. We really didn't see her!"
Juniper had driven out that afternoon, probably heading to the auction house for work.
The men had planned to strike on a remote stretch of road, but the car was parked in the shade for half an hour without moving. When they went to check, they found no one inside. Did Juniper park there and use the shade to escape?
Did she already know they were following her?
They immediately started looking for her, but before they could find her, Nelson's men arrived.
Yvonne blinked with difficulty. "I did send these men, but they just said they didn't even see Juniper."
Nelson stared at her quietly. "Why did you send them?"
For the first time, Yvonne was frightened by her son's expression. She finally understood that Nelson was serious about Juniper—very serious.
Otherwise, he wouldn't be turning against her like this.
She stayed silent.
Nelson pulled out a gun and shot one of the men straight in the leg. The man broke out in a cold sweat from the pain and kept exchanging glances.
"Mrs. Saint! Mrs. Saint, save us! Please save us! The boss is really going to kill us. Save us..."
They were terrified. They originally thought with Yvonne backing them, nothing would happen. But now, it was clear Nelson didn't care about Yvonne.
Terrified, they collapsed on the floor. "Mrs. Saint told us that once we caught Juniper, we were to kill her! Not just kill her, but dismember her into pieces so she could never come back alive! Boss, we really didn't have time to act..."
Kill, dismember...
To kill Juniper, to dismember Juniper.
Nelson's fingers trembled slightly as he turned to look at Yvonne.
Yvonne closed her eyes, trembling. It took her several seconds to calm down before she spoke coldly. "I was furious when I gave that order."
Nelson looked at her as if he didn't recognize her, staring intently for a full minute. "Mom, you make me feel like I don't know you."
Yvonne kept a cold face, feeling the whole situation was bizarre. How did Juniper escape, and why did Nelson find out so perfectly?
It felt like she had fallen into someone's trap.
"Nelson, listen to me. This Juniper..."
"What is there to say?"
