Before the slap could land on Scarlett's face, Melanie's hand was caught mid-air by a large, firm grip.
Julian stared coldly at Melanie.
"What do you think you're doing? Use your words. We're all civilized adults here."
Melanie's nostrils flared with rage.
"Civilized? You locked me up in that place for months, and you expect me to just have a polite little chat with you now?"
"Move, Julian! I have a score to settle with her, and I'm not leaving until I do!"
Melanie roared, instinctively trying to lunge at Scarlett again.
Scarlett remained seated, utterly unbothered. Her gaze was cool and detached, her face devoid of expression, and her heart completely steady.
She was no longer the woman who had to constantly watch her back and fight her battles alone.
With Julian by her side, acting as her unwavering shield, she felt an overwhelming sense of security.
Julian spoke in a calm, flat tone.
"Sorry, I'm not moving."
Melanie's head snapped up, glaring at him with pure disbelief.
"What the hell is wrong with you?"
"Haven't you played her lapdog long enough? How much longer are you going to protect her?"
She pointed an accusing finger at Scarlett. "Don't tell me you actually like a woman like this! What... what is so great about her?"
Melanie's eyes were blazing with a toxic mix of anger, jealousy, and an undeniable sense of grievance.
For years, she had harbored a secret crush on Julian.
Back when he had suddenly gotten together with Sylvia, it had eaten her alive.
Her voice skyrocketed an octave. "They got married?! No, why does she get to have him?!"
Melanie couldn't believe it. The woman she despised, the woman she wanted to crush beneath her heel, had somehow hit the jackpot!
Scarlett had already been married to her exceptional brother, and now she had managed to wed the golden boy himself!
Why did she get all the luck?
Why did she get everything so effortlessly, while Melanie was left with nothing?
Her gaze fixed on Julian, and in that moment, it felt like a thousand knives twisting in her heart.
"Is it true? You... you actually married a woman like her?"
"I don't understand, what's in it for you? She's a divorcee with a kid! You could have literally anyone you want. Why would you degrade yourself like this?"
Her voice was hoarse with rage. The thought that the man she had secretly pined for since she was a teenager had ended up in Scarlett's clutches left a bitter, indescribable taste in her mouth.
