"I am so mad! I am so incredibly mad!"
Melanie screamed the moment she crossed the threshold. Spotting a decorative potted plant in her way, she didn't hesitate to violently kick it over.
She threw herself onto the sofa, huffing aggressively, and immediately shot Yardley a withering glare.
"What kind of women are you getting involved with?!"
"Damn it! The second I get out, I run into that walking disaster, Scarlett! Talk about horrific luck!"
"And Julian! He's buzzing around her like a fly! It's disgusting! It makes me sick!"
"You need to figure out a way to make the two of them disappear from Bay City permanently. Can you do that?"
Although Melanie had spent months locked up, she hadn't gained even a fraction of Clarissa's self-awareness.
In fact, during her time behind bars, she had filled several notebooks with nothing but curses directed at Scarlett.
She genuinely believed that her current miserable existence and ruined reputation were entirely Scarlett's fault.
Her hatred for the woman could orbit the earth a few times over.
Yardley watched her throw her tantrum, his face an unreadable mask.
When he spoke, his voice was incredibly flat and calm.
"That's because she's an exceptional woman. That's why Julian is so drawn to her."
The sheer level of validation in that statement caused both Melanie and Veronica to explode simultaneously.
They had barely sat down before they sprang right back up, practically shouting in unison:
"What did you just say? Are you praising her?!"
Veronica's face flushed a furious, mottled red. She pointed a shaking finger at him.
"You... you're actually praising your ex-wife right to my face?!"
"I am a hundred, a thousand times better than she ever was! And you're standing there calling her exceptional?!"
She was shaking with rage. In her mind, he had completely lost his mind.
He let out a cold, dismissive scoff.
"I couldn't care less."
Veronica looked ready to drop dead.
"You... you..."
She clutched her chest, practically hyperventilating.
Seeing her state, Melanie rushed over to support her, rubbing her back while viciously turning on her brother.
"What is wrong with you?"
"Do you have any idea that the only reason the three of us got out is because of Veronica?!"
"She is our savior right now, and you're biting the hand that feeds you! Are you insane?"
"Besides, your joint business ventures are thriving. Things are looking up. Why the hell would you bring up divorce now?!"
