He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 1007

"What did you just say? You... you want to become a monk?!"

Corinne was terrified. She rushed over and grabbed him tightly. "Don't do anything crazy! I haven't even gotten to hold my grandson yet!"

He looked down at her, his eyes like ice.

"What do you mean you haven't? You have a granddaughter who's almost two."

"It's just that your behavior has never once resembled that of a loving grandmother."

Corinne bristled at the accusation, instantly furious.

"Are you blaming me for not treating her well back then?"

"That is completely unfair! Scarlett and her mother guarded that child like hawks! I never even got the chance to get close to her! How was I supposed to show her I cared?!"

His voice remained cold and detached.

"If you actually wanted to see her, you would have found a way. Everything else is just an excuse."

It felt as if a wad of cotton had been shoved down Corinne's throat.

Before she could argue back, Clarissa interjected.

"Alright, it's getting late. I'm going to head back, pack my things, and head to the seminary."

"For the next three months, I'll be in an intensive retreat—meditating, praying, and staying disconnected. I won't have my phone on me."

"You'll have to manage the company on your own. I can't help you anymore. I'm sorry."

Her resolve was absolute. She seemed to have completely detached herself from all worldly concerns.

Throughout the entire exchange, she didn't look at her mother once.

During those months locked away, she had thought long and hard about everything. The reason their family was tearing itself apart wasn't because of Scarlett; it was largely because of her mother.

Any woman in Scarlett's position would have been driven insane.

The fact that she hadn't lost her mind, but had instead bravely walked away, proved she was an incredibly strong woman.

Clarissa held no resentment toward her former sister-in-law. Instead, she felt a deep sense of understanding.

When she looked back at all the absurd, cruel things her mother had done to Scarlett after she joined the Flynn family, Clarissa felt overwhelmingly ashamed.

"Do you honestly not know what you've done?"

"You complain about Dad having a second family, but you know exactly what you've been doing behind closed doors."

"Did you really think no one knew about you and Sylvia?"

The moment the words left her mouth, Corinne froze as if struck by lightning, her eyes widening in sheer terror.

"How... how do you know about that? Who told you?!"

Clarissa let out a cold laugh.

"Mom, I'm not an idiot. You've blatantly favored Sylvia for years. Did you think I was blind?"

"And all those times you supposedly went out 'networking' or doing 'charity work,' all dressed up, disappearing for days at a time... Did you really think I didn't know what was actually going on?"

In the past, she never would have brought this up, preferring to mind her own business.

But now, since she was leaving her old life behind anyway, she decided to rip the band-aid off, hoping her final words might actually serve as a wake-up call for them.
