He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 1021

Zachary was just about to comfort her when a man's booming voice echoed from outside the door.

"Jacqueline Langley! It's me, Sean Bishop!"

"Our marriage was never legally annulled! In the eyes of the law, you're still my wife!"

"I'm old! I can't work anymore, and you can't just leave me out here to rot! You have to make our daughter pay for my living expenses!"

"If you treat me like this, I'll go to the press! I'll expose you all!"

The shrill, abrasive blasts of a megaphone pierced through the open windows.

Zachary's expression turned ice-cold.

Jacqueline's face drained of color, then darkened with fury.

Zachary's fingers curled into tight fists. He stood up and moved slowly to the window.

Looking down, he saw a tall, emaciated older man standing on the street outside the courtyard, waving a megaphone and screaming at the top of his lungs.

The moment Zachary's face appeared in the window, the man faltered.

Then, his entire face froze.

He rubbed his eyes in disbelief, looking as utterly shocked as if he had just seen a ghost.

Jacqueline's emotions instantly steadied. Looking down at the despicable man she wished she could tear apart, her heart trembled violently, but the more it shook, the calmer her face became.

"When did he get back?"
