"As for your three other children... you're on your own. I will never acknowledge them, and I will not give them a single dime. You figure it out."
"And regarding Mom and Melanie: as of today, they are dead to this company. Whatever happens to them is no longer Flynn Group's problem."
Franklin felt another sharp pain in his chest, but he was utterly powerless to fight back. He gave a stiff, jerky nod.
He knew this was the blood price of his surrender.
The temperature in the office felt like absolute zero. The father and son stood feet apart, yet the chasm between them was wider than if they had been strangers.
Looking at the ruthless, hyper-competent man his son had become, Franklin was engulfed by a wave of suffocating regret.
If he hadn't spent the last decade chasing mistresses... if he had just been a decent father and husband, keeping his wife and daughters in line... the Flynn family wouldn't be this shattered, radioactive mess.
And he wouldn't be standing here, stripped of his crown and forced into a humiliating exile by his own son.
But there was no undoing the past.
His relationship with Yardley was irreparably broken. And looking at the cold reality of his checkmate, Franklin realized he had absolutely no leverage left.
He didn't even know how he was going to walk out of this office and face Irene Sommers. What was he supposed to tell her and their three young kids? The billion-dollar trusts were gone. It was a miracle if she even stayed with him after this.
Panic gripping his heart, Franklin desperately reached for a lifeline.
"If... if something happens to me down the line... you'll still make sure I'm taken care of, right?"
Yardley looked at him, a faint, razor-sharp smirk touching his lips.
