He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 1037

It was a beautiful weekend.

Scarlett and Julian Croft were spending their days off at an exclusive countryside retreat just outside Bay City, bringing both of their families along.

The property belonged to a close friend of Julian's. It wasn't open to the public, reserved only for private gatherings. The estate had a rustic, elegant charm, surrounded by breathtaking landscaping. There were free-roaming chickens, ducks, and bunnies, and a crystal-clear natural stream running through the grounds.

The owner, knowing they were coming, had prepared gorgeous suites for everyone and fully stocked the kitchen with incredible local food for the weekend.

"I never could have imagined a life like this a year ago," Scarlett mused.

She was lounging in a plush camping chair, eating chilled watermelon that had been cooled in the stream, and sipping a fresh drink Julian had just handed her. Thinking back to her days in the Flynn household, where she was constantly stressed, exhausted, and living like a corporate drone, the contrast was almost surreal.

Zachary Bishop was sitting nearby, looking as stoic as ever. Hearing her comment, the corner of his mouth twitched upward. "Just goes to show, marrying the right guy beats working yourself to the bone."

Jacqueline Langley smiled warmly. "Absolutely. Scarlett's life now is heaven compared to the hell she endured with the Flynns."

"Julian handles every detail. Scarlett doesn't have to lift a finger unless she wants to."

Elara's eyes sparkled with maternal pride. "I may only have one son, but I never coddled him. I put him to work since he was a boy. I always told him, 'When you get married, you need to step up. Women have enough to deal with; you don't get to sit on the couch and act like a king while your wife does everything.'"

Jacqueline gave her a thumbs-up. "You did an incredible job raising him."

Elara laughed, returning the compliment. "You raised two brilliant, formidable children yourself! We're both fantastic mothers, and Scarlett will be one too."

Laughter erupted around the patio, the atmosphere warm and perfectly content.
