He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 104

Without missing a beat, Corinne pulled out her phone and tapped on a grainy, outdated video file.

She had kept this specific clip saved on her phone for years, never once deleting it.

Whenever Scarlett annoyed her, she would pull it up, watching it on a loop to revel in the sick satisfaction. Her hatred for both mother and daughter only deepened with every replay.

She shoved the screen right into Scarlett's face.

Through the low resolution, Scarlett could make out a group of opulently dressed women surrounding a solitary figure, hurling vicious insults, slapping, and kicking her.

The woman was forced to the ground, her clothes ripped to shreds. Yet, she offered zero resistance, only pleading desperately.

Scarlett's heart felt like it was being fed through a meat grinder. She clutched her chest, the overwhelming, suffocating pressure exploding the second the woman's hair was yanked back, revealing her bruised face.

In a flash of pure adrenaline, she swatted Corinne's phone to the ground, shattering the screen, and lunged straight for Corinne's throat.

That was really her mother!

Her mother had been ganged up on by a pack of so-called "high-society ladies" and tortured until she barely looked human!

Every last shred of Scarlett's rationality evaporated. She wanted nothing more than to send Corinne and Gwen straight to the grave right then and there.

But before her hands could make contact, the two hulking bodyguards behind Corinne tackled her, slamming her brutally onto the unforgiving concrete.

By the time Timothy Gray finally burst onto the terrace, one of the guards had Scarlett pinned, shoving her face-first into the concrete and scraping her skin.

The friction tore at her cheek, igniting a blinding, fiery pain.

Timothy was incandescent with rage. He tried to barrel into the group to save her.

"What the hell are you doing?! Have you completely lost your minds?"

But before he could even get close, two brawny men intercepted him, easily restraining him.

He had just run to the security office to demand help, only to be told that the guards were currently handling an emergency and couldn't spare the manpower.

Timothy realized with a sinking heart that Corinne had orchestrated this perfectly. They had come explicitly to torture Scarlett.

And he was completely powerless to stop them.

Scarlett painfully wrenched her head up, locking eyes with Corinne.

"Tell them to let Mr. Gray go, and I... I will do what you asked."

Corinne and Gwen exchanged a smug, victorious look, while Sylvia shot a discreet signal to the guards.
