Yardley froze in his tracks, his hands instinctively balling into fists.
For years, he had turned a blind eye to his father’s affairs just to maintain the illusion of a respectable family. He had known about Franklin and Irene, but he had never confronted them. Even when forced to interact with Irene at the office, he had kept things strictly professional and distant. He thought he was maintaining boundaries. He never imagined that she and his father would be so utterly shameless as to secretly produce three children right under his nose.
And now, she had the audacity to bring those kids into his company and cause a scene.
Yardley’s expression turned lethal, his voice dropping to a terrifyingly cold register. "How bad is it?"
"It's completely out of control," Nathan replied, the panic evident in his voice. "She’s waving paternity tests around, along with a document where your father allegedly promised her and the kids company shares. She's crying to the employees, playing the victim, talking about how she stayed in the shadows for years and sacrificed so much for the company."
"She said if you don't come down and give her and the kids what they're owed, she’s going to hold a live press conference and expose every filthy secret the Flynns have. She wants to burn the company to the ground."
A vicious migraine throbbed at Yardley’s temples. His blood was boiling. It all clicked into place instantly.
Last night, he had forced his father to sign an agreement that completely stripped him of his power. It froze all assets and blocked any avenues for setting up offshore trusts. He had effectively cut off Irene and her kids' financial lifeline. She had stayed quiet for years, gambling on those three kids to secure her a massive chunk of the Flynn fortune. Now that she was backed into a corner with nothing to show for it, she was ready to detonate the bomb.
Yardley had anticipated a messy fallout with Irene eventually. But he hadn't expected her to strike this fast, or this recklessly.
