Yardley slapped her hand away without a second thought. "The divorce is happening. I am not letting my family be chained to the Thornes. And frankly, I highly doubt you have the power to destroy us."
Disgusted and out of patience, he bypassed her, swiped through the security turnstiles, and strode into the lobby, quickly disappearing from her view.
Veronica stomped her foot in a fit of rage, trying to chase after him, but the security guards immediately formed a wall, blocking her out.
"Yardley!" she shrieked, her eyes wide with fury. "Let's see how long you can keep this arrogant act up! You better come crawling back and beg for my forgiveness while you still can!"
Yardley didn't even break his stride. He treated her like she was completely invisible.
Watching him walk away, Veronica felt a sudden, unsettling realization. He was completely different now. The old Yardley cared obsessively about his image, the family name, and what the elite circles whispered about him. He used to be cautious, swallowing insults to avoid scandals or a dip in stock prices.
But this Yardley? He acted like he didn't give a damn about any of it.
She had orchestrated this whole circus with Irene and the illegitimate kids thinking it would force Yardley to submit. She assumed he would drop the divorce just to keep things quiet. In her twisted mind, she had it all planned out: if he came back to her, she’d dial back the drama and actually try to make the marriage work. Deep down, she was still obsessed with him. They hadn't even consummated the marriage, and the thought of being branded a divorcee so quickly enraged her.
But Yardley wasn't bowing to the pressure. He looked ready to burn it all down himself.
