In the past, Yardley’s first instinct during a scandal was to suppress it, cover it up, and maintain stability. But now, he just found it all incredibly funny.
The more he compromised, the more people exploited his weaknesses. The more he tried to protect his reputation, the more they tore it apart. Since this family was rotten to the core, and everyone was tripping over themselves to drag him into the abyss, he decided he was done playing nice. He was going to rip off the bandaids and expose all the filth. The Flynns had been an absolute embarrassment for the last two years anyway. He had no dignity left to protect, so he might as well go scorched earth.
Seeing him arrive, a glimmer of triumph flashed in Irene’s eyes. She amplified her crying, stepping forward like a wounded deer. "Yardley, you're finally here. I know making a scene like this is bad for the company, but you backed me into a corner. I have to make sure your younger brothers and sister survive. They are Flynn blood, after all..."
Yardley slowly raised his head, his cold eyes locking onto her and the three children. It was the first time he had seen them since learning about his father's secret family. Seeing the unmistakable family resemblance on their small faces stirred a chaotic mix of emotions in his chest.
He let out a sharp, mocking laugh. "If you actually cared about them surviving, you wouldn't parade them in front of a mob, whip up a media frenzy, and try to destroy the very company you claim they deserve a piece of."
Irene’s face froze. She hadn't expected him to be so brutally unsympathetic. Gritting her teeth, she doubled down on the victim act. "I... I was forced into this! I just want what rightfully belongs to me and my children! They are his flesh and blood! Your father built this empire, so why should you get all the shares? I have his written promise—a massive trust fund for each of my babies! You can't just void that!"
