She playfully pinched Julian’s handsome cheek, looping her arms around his neck as she leaned in.
"Why would I? I already have the best man in the world right here. I’m not stupid enough to throw away a diamond for a piece of glass," she murmured, her tone sweet and coaxing.
"So, can you please have a little more confidence in yourself?"
The tension bled out of Julian’s eyes, and he let out a massive breath.
"Thank God."
"For a second there, I really thought... you were falling for him again."
Any thought of work completely vanished from his mind. He scooped Scarlett up, settling her into his lap with a low, husky rumble. "You can't joke about things like this, sweetheart. I think you need to be punished."
Scarlett felt his breathing turn heavy and immediately sensed the danger. "Julian, calm down. It's the middle of the day, we have to leave soon, and there's a meeting this afternoon!"
His lips brushed her jaw as his arm tightened around her waist. "It's fine. We have an hour before we need to leave. That’s plenty of time."
Scarlett pointed frantically at his laptop. "No way! I still have a spreadsheet to update, the numbers aren't right yet!"
Julian’s hands were already wandering. With his free hand, he dragged the laptop back over to her. "That's fine. You do your spreadsheet, and I’ll do mine."
Scarlett: "!!!"
...
Fifty minutes later.
The two of them emerged from the bedroom one after the other.
