He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 1056

He sped down the highway, pushing the engine to its limits. But a few minutes later, that god-awful pink car popped right back into his rearview mirror.

The color was so obnoxiously bright it was impossible to ignore.

Zachary’s brow locked into a hard line. With a muttered curse, he stomped on the gas, rocketing forward once more.

Meanwhile, Scarlett and Julian had just wrapped up a massive trilateral meeting with upstream and downstream suppliers at a private resort.

With the Croft Group’s business expanding at an explosive rate, locking in reliable supply chain partners was critical.

The meeting had been in the works for a long time, and because of the intricate, highly technical details involved, it had dragged on for over three hours before finally concluding.

Scarlett’s back ached, and her brain felt like it was made of mush.

Arm in arm, she and Julian chatted about work as they stepped into the elevator, heading straight for the underground parking garage.

Julian pulled out his phone and frowned at the screen.

"This hotel takes privacy a little too seriously. They block cell signals completely. I haven't gotten a single message or call all afternoon."

Scarlett smiled tiredly.

"In this day and age, that’s exactly why people book this place for confidential meetings."

"It’s fine. We’ll get a signal as soon as we drive out."

The elevator dinged at the second basement level, and the heavy metal doors slid open.

A damp, chilly breeze swept past them. The garage’s fluorescent lights flickered violently, casting long, wavering shadows across the concrete.

The massive parking structure was dead silent and completely empty. Not a single car in sight, no pedestrians. Only the echo of their footsteps broke the eerie quiet.

Julian scanned the empty space, a prickle of unease crawling up his spine. Instinctively, he pulled Scarlett closer to his side, his voice dropping low.
