Juno puffed out her cheeks defensively. "I'm twenty-six! I'm not a little girl!"
"I'm a legitimate university professor, and in STEM, no less—which is incredibly rare for women! Don't underestimate me, Zachary!"
"Once my cousin and Scarlett get the M2 Industrial Park up and running, they might even invite me to be a guest lecturer!"
A flicker of genuine surprise crossed Zachary's eyes. Judging by her youthful appearance and loud, impulsive personality, he had assumed she was nothing more than a spoiled heiress. He never expected someone so young to be a university professor, let alone in the sciences.
It struck a nerve. Once upon a time, his greatest dream had been to study physics and become a top-tier physicist. But reality had violently severed that path, leaving it as the greatest regret of his life.
Hearing Juno casually mention her academic achievements stirred a complex, agonizing knot of emotions in his chest.
He had amassed more wealth in this lifetime than most people could make in a hundred. But there were things money could never buy back—like his legs, and his teenage dreams.
Despite his internal turmoil, Zachary’s face remained an unreadable mask of indifference. "So what? Your academic credentials have absolutely nothing to do with the cartel we’re dealing with."
Juno’s face flushed red with frustration. "H-how does it not? I—"
She desperately wanted to argue her case, to prove she could be useful to them. But before she could finish, Zachary dismissively waved his hand.
"Enough. This conversation is over."
"Scarlett, Julian took a heavy beating. Take him to the bedroom and check his injuries. Don't let him tough it out. If he needs a hospital, take him to one."
Scarlett nodded. "Got it."
