The thought of him standing alone against a swarm of attackers, taking the brunt of those heavy steel pipes just to protect her, made Scarlett's heart ache fiercely.
Feeling the cool touch of the antiseptic on his back and hearing the lingering terror in her voice, Julian turned his head slightly. His eyes were filled with a warm, steady affection, his voice raspy but comforting.
"I'm fine, really. It was chaotic. If I hadn't blocked them, you would have been the one hurt. I'm your husband. Protecting you is exactly what I'm supposed to do."
He paused, lowering his voice gently. "Don't cry. It'll heal in a few days. Don't be sad on my account."
Scarlett sniffled, wiping away the tears at the corners of her eyes. Forcing down her overwhelming emotions, she meticulously cleaned every cut and carefully applied the anti-inflammatory ointment. "I'm not sad, I'm just terrified. If Zachary hadn't shown up, neither of us would have walked out of that garage alive."
Julian nodded. "Yeah. If it weren't for him, we'd be dead."
"But honestly, his performance back there was unbelievable. He doesn't move like someone missing his legs. His reflexes and combat skills were faster than a normal person's."
Thinking back to the fight in the garage, Scarlett thoroughly agreed. "I couldn't even tell his legs were prosthetics. It looked like they were a natural part of his body."
"Has technology really reached that kind of miraculous level?"
