"Veronica, do you honestly believe your every move was so flawless that it won't leave a trail?"
Every single word Julian spoke nailed the truth without a millimeter of error.
Veronica's pupils shrank, panic finally consuming her. She stared at the couple in horror as terror crashed over her in waves.
"You're both full of crap! Total garbage!"
"Whatever, I'm not wasting my time arguing with you! Julian, Scarlett—just you wait!"
Completely cornered and out of words, Veronica feigned toughness, spun on her heel, and scrambled into her car. She sped off, quickly vanishing from their sight.
Scarlett pulled out her phone and stopped the recording. She glanced at Julian, her eyes filled with helpless exhaustion. "When do you think we'll ever get to live a normal, peaceful life? Without all this chaotic drama constantly pulling at us?"
Julian wrapped a comforting arm around her shoulders. "Honestly, we can have a peaceful life whenever you want. If it comes down to it, I'll stand in front and take all the storms for you."
Scarlett shook her head. "No way. I'd much rather stand right beside you, fighting the storms together, than hide behind you like some carefree little girl. That's the only kind of life that means anything to me."
Julian gently tapped her cute nose. "I must be the luckiest guy alive to have you as my wife."
"Come on, let's not let this mess ruin our day. Let's go back to our place. The three of us can hit the grocery store, and I'll cook dinner for my two favorite girls tonight."
