He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 142

As the two of them chatted back and forth in hushed, soft voices, Yardley skillfully finished changing his daughter's diaper.

He carefully supported her tiny body and pulled her back into his embrace, letting her rest her little head securely against his chest.

Throughout the entire process, his eyes never left his daughter for even a second. That completely captivated and peaceful expression made him truly look the part of a devoted father.

Scarlett watched the scene quietly for a long moment. A faint smirk tugged at the corner of her lips, and she couldn't help but let out a dry laugh.

It seemed he had gotten plenty of practice over at Sylvia's place during her postpartum recovery. That seamless, fluid series of movements showed absolutely no sign of a clumsy new father.

At the thought of this, whatever tiny shred of warmth had just been stirred in Scarlett's heart instantly vanished. Instead, a sickening wave of disgust washed over her chest.

"Were you really here all night? Did hell freeze over today?"

Scarlett sat up from the companion bed, unable to hold back her sarcastic tone.

Yardley turned around quickly with his daughter still in his arms. Seeing Scarlett awake, a warm smile rippled across his lips.

"Yes, I didn't sleep a wink last night. I held her the entire time."

"I had my lab results checked, and my cold is completely gone, so you don't have to worry. I also made sure to sanitize myself from head to toe."

Scarlett stared at the dark circles bruised beneath his eyes. He really did look like he had stayed up all night.

Zara offered a bright smile.

"You don't know this, ma'am, but last night, just so you could get a good night's sleep, Mr. Flynn picked Dawn up the second she started crying."

"It was actually quite amazing. Dawn completely stopped crying whenever he held her. It's almost as if she knows he's her father. She must really want him to hold her every day."

Scarlett frowned instinctively.

Zara was at it again.

Lately, the nanny had taken every opportunity to persuade her against getting a divorce. She constantly urged Scarlett to compromise with Yardley, to work things out, and frequently lectured her with grand philosophies about marriage.
