Scarlett instinctively tried to pull her wrist away, but Yardley only tightened his grip. "Scarlett, you have to explain this to me..."
She paused, but before she could speak, Julian forcefully pried Yardley's hand off and delivered a hard punch squarely to his chest.
"I don't see why I need to explain a perfectly normal professional partnership to you. If anyone needs to explain themselves, Yardley, it's you. Shouldn't you be giving the two of us a reasonable explanation?"
"Oh, wait. You did. You said you and Sylvia are just a normal cousin dynamic. Fine. Then my explanation for me and Scarlett is this: whatever relationship you have with Sylvia, that's exactly what Scarlett and I have."
"Let's go, Scarlett."
Julian was incredibly tough and entirely uncompromising. Watching him, Scarlett felt like she was witnessing a legendary weapon being unsheathed. Despite his usually calm, refreshing aura, when it came down to a physical confrontation, Yardley—who worked out constantly—was completely outmatched, stumbling backward from the punch.
Her amazing brother... just what kind of divine protectors was he sending her way? She had already gotten used to Stellan's smooth efficiency, and now, he had dispatched the god-like Julian!
Looking into Julian's eyes, she couldn't help but feel a spark of awe. At that moment, she deeply missed her brother overseas, eagerly anticipating the day he would finally appear to surprise her.
Julian's words completely suffocated Yardley, cutting off his air supply and leaving him utterly speechless. Julian turned, pulling Scarlett away at a brisk pace.
She quickly unlocked her car with the remote. Without missing a beat, Julian slid into the driver's seat and gestured for her to take the passenger side. She paused for a second before happily obliging, slipping into her car, buckling up, and settling in.
A second later, Julian fired up the engine and smoothly drove the car out onto the road, vanishing from Yardley's line of sight.
Yardley stood rooted to the spot, feeling as if his chest was quite literally smoking. He felt like a human target, riddled with arrows shot by Scarlett and Julian, leaving him bleeding out from a thousand holes.
