He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 189

What?!

So, according to Yardley's theory, Scarlett had stealthily managed to snatch away the two most important men in her life without anyone noticing?! Sylvia felt as if her allure had been utterly and completely crushed into the dirt.

No. She couldn't accept this reality. Not even a little bit.

"Yardley, that's nonsense! It's impossible. Completely impossible!"

"How could she possibly have the charm to make you refuse to let go, while keeping Julian completely obsessed? That's ridiculous. Just absurd!"

Clutching her head, Sylvia felt instantly sick. She lacked the strength to even drive, her palms slick with cold sweat.

Yardley, meanwhile, was consumed by a raging inferno. He felt a twisted sense of vindication, finally pushing through the fog and identifying the true culprit. His eyes were cold as ice.

Right then, Nathan called. "Mr. Flynn, we've located her car. It's parked outside a place called the Firebrand Grill. She, Julian, Gordon, Harbour... all your close friends are there. Her best friend Talia is there too."

Yardley's breathing stopped.

Great. Just great...

It wasn't just his wife and his best friend betraying him. They had hijacked his entire social circle.

For such a massive get-together, he would have ordinarily been the center of attention. Everyone used to ask for his input before making plans and sincerely invite him to join. But tonight, he was starving, hadn't eaten dinner, and hadn't received a single call from his so-called friends. It was as if they had all collectively erased him from their memories.

The venue had a vibrant, musical atmosphere. Outside, a long row of grills sizzled with beef, lamb, and various skewers, releasing a mouth-watering aroma. The inside had been completely booked out. Scarlett and Julian were seated centrally on the sofas, surrounded by familiar faces all celebrating his return.

Gordon suggested a group rendition of "Friends in Arms" and picked up a guitar to lead. Everyone had knocked back plenty of drinks, and the vibe was electric. Scarlett and Talia were having the time of their lives, standing barefoot on the sofa and using empty beer bottles as microphones. They belted out the lyrics at the top of their lungs while everyone else clapped along in perfect rhythm.

For a moment, it felt just like the carefree days of college—before marriage, before having a child. Back when she and Talia did nothing but study fiercely, hang out with the guys, sport tomboy haircuts, drink midnight beers, and throw wild parties.

She was so close to escaping the misery of her marriage. So close to getting her freedom back. She felt absolutely zero nostalgia for being trapped in a cage. All she had was a burning desire to break free and a bright hope for the future.

When the song ended, amid the roaring cheers, she and Talia chugged an entire bottle of 1664 in one go.
