Julian looked at Sylvia, his tone calm, his eyes completely devoid of any warmth. "Sylvia, you're just in time. Since you're here, let's head down to City Hall."
Sylvia froze.
City Hall? Was he absolutely determined to divorce her? Was there truly no room for negotiation?
She clamped her hands over her ears, desperately trying to block out reality. "Julian, please don't do this. I don't want to hear it. I'm not divorcing you. I'm not going to City Hall."
His expression hardened. He grabbed her wrist, ready to drag her out the door. "You don't have a choice."
She fought back, struggling wildly against his grip. Even though it was clearly the end of the line, she refused to accept it.
Clearly not wanting to air his dirty laundry in front of an audience, Julian practically dragged her into his own office, slamming the door shut with a loud bang.
The air in Scarlett's office instantly fell dead silent.
Scarlett and Chatwin stood there, staring blankly at each other.
Chatwin finally threw his hands up. "I see this kind of thing all the time. The world is a funny place. Good guys always end up with the worst women, and good women end up with the worst guys."
Scarlett nodded in profound agreement, a faint, sad smile on her lips. "It's been so hard on Julian. Deep down, he's hurting even more than I am."
Chatwin leaned in closer, his tone casual but clearly fishing. "What's this? Does your heart ache for him?"
Scarlett jumped, her face instantly turning crimson, and she waved her hands frantically. "Chatwin, please don't joke about things like that—"
He smirked, trying to hold back a laugh. "Hey, once you're both officially single... it could happen. Proximity breeds romance, right?"
Scarlett was speechless.
Chatwin's teasing only escalated. "Julian is a total catch in every department. That woman just doesn't know how lucky she was. Whoever ends up with him is going to be incredibly happy."
Scarlett didn't know what to say.
Scarlett mentally facepalmed. She frowned, asking one last time, "Are you absolutely sure... you want to meet him?"
"I'm positive! How about tonight? Drinks are on me. You pick the place."
Scarlett closed her eyes and sighed. "Fine... I'll ask him in a bit."
Just as she finished speaking, a woman's agonizing wails echoed from outside. It was a harrowing sound, utterly devastated and completely pathetic.
Scarlett pushed the door open and found Sylvia crouched by the sinks, sobbing uncontrollably, looking like she might pass out. Gripped tightly in her hand was a thin piece of paper. On it were the words: Divorce Settlement Agreement.
Seeing this, Scarlett couldn't help but internally roll her eyes. She walked over to the sink to wash her hands, fully intending to ignore the other woman.
But without warning, Sylvia lunged at her from behind, wrapping an arm around her neck and violently yanking her hair.
Before Scarlett could even process what was happening, something sharp, cold, and metallic was pressed hard against her throat.
