As Julian shielded Madeleine with his body, he furiously kicked the worker closest to him who was still blasting the hose.
"Do you have any humanity left?! She's an elderly woman!"
"Is there nothing we can negotiate? Did you really have to resort to something this extreme?!" he roared, hastily ripping off his coat and wrapping it tightly around Madeleine.
She was completely drenched, her lips deathly pale and her face haggard, yet her eyes still burned with an extraordinary, unyielding resolve.
"Julian... no matter what happens, you cannot let them continue digging!"
"Even if it kills me, I won't just stand by and watch The Breeze Pagoda fall! I fought so hard to protect it... If anything happens to it, I... I won't be able to rest in peace!"
Using the very last ounce of her strength to force the words out, Madeleine collapsed into his arms.
"Grandma! Grandma!" he shouted in sheer panic.
Meanwhile, Scarlett had managed to locate the main water valve and twisted it shut with all her might.
The hoses finally died, and a heavy silence fell over the site.
Seeing Madeleine unconscious, Scarlett's expression turned terrifyingly cold. She marched right up to Veronica.
Before Veronica even realized what was happening, Scarlett slapped her across the face with everything she had.
"You are an absolute monster!"
