The butler sprinted toward the main house, his forehead slick with cold sweat, his eyes wide with sheer panic. "Sir! It's... it's bad! The Madam brought an army, and they're smashing down the gates!"
Yardley's expression hardened instantly. Acting on reflex, he shoved Dawn into Corinne's arms and shot up from the couch. "I'll handle this."
He strode toward the entrance, a storm raging in his mind. He had brought the baby here in absolute secrecy. How did Scarlett find out so quickly?
Had she already tracked down Sylvia and Melanie? Had she... uncovered the truth about what happened back then?
Before he even reached the foyer, his phone vibrated violently. It was Nathan.
"Mr. Flynn, it's a disaster! The financial crimes division just raided the office and hauled one of our board directors away! And the MR security detail we had? They completely abandoned their posts! They said... they said they were operating on Ms. Langley's direct orders!"
Yardley froze, his face draining of color. "What did you say? Scarlett went after the company?"
Before he could even process the catastrophe, his secondary phone rang. He answered it, greeted by the cold, mechanical tone of an official.
"Is this Mr. Yardley Flynn? I'm calling from the municipal criminal investigations unit. Melanie Flynn and Sylvia Stetson have been officially detained on charges of kidnapping a minor. The evidence is conclusive, and they are currently in custody..."
*Clatter.*
The phone slipped from Yardley's hand, hitting the hardwood floor.
In less than thirty minutes, Scarlett had sent his sisters and his cousin straight to jail. But what chilled him to the bone was that she executed this flawlessly, without a single rumor reaching his ears until it was too late.
When did she acquire this kind of terrifying influence? Was Julian Croft moving pieces for her behind the scenes again?
Yardley's hands clenched into tight fists, his knuckles turning white. For the past few months, he had dragged his pride through the mud, begging for her forgiveness, sinking as low as a man could go to save their marriage.
And what was his reward? Relentless humiliation and a systematic strike to annihilate his family.
She tried to push past him, but Yardley seized her wrist in a vice grip. His strength was terrifying, his gaze absolute ice.
"Scarlett, Dawn is my daughter too. I'm her father, and I have the right to decide where she spends the night."
"I signed the divorce papers. I bent over backwards to meet your demands. But you crossed a line when you came after my family."
His voice was dangerously low, dripping with venom. "You had my sisters arrested just to force my hand? Do you really think just because I surrendered to you, I'll let you crush my family into the dirt?"
Scarlett froze, staring at him in utter disbelief.
This was the Yardley she knew. The arrogant, condescending dictator who ruled from on high.
"You have the nerve to defend them?!" Scarlett was shaking with rage, pointing a trembling finger at his face. "Your sister kidnapped my baby! Your other sister forged our legal documents! I called the cops because they committed crimes! They belong behind bars!"
