He Lost Me to His Best Friend novel Chapter 292

At the time, Yardley had just returned from a business trip. Seeing her lying in bed, he didn't bother to ask what was wrong. Instead, he snapped at her for not greeting him at the airport and for failing to have dinner ready.

Dragging her aching, feverish body out of bed, Scarlett had managed to cook him some beef spaghetti.

But he had ruthlessly criticized the meal, tearing it apart.

It wasn't until Leah couldn't stand it anymore and gently pointed out that Scarlett was burning up with a fever that he finally noticed her flushed face and exhausted demeanor.

Even though he desperately apologized afterward and bought her a limited-edition Bvlgari necklace to coax her into smiling, the damage was done.

That incident remained a knot in her heart. It was the moment she truly realized he had never cared about her, and she began to slowly withdraw her love.

He had once turned a blind eye to all the devotion she gave him. Now, even seeing him suffering in the pouring rain, she could do the same.

Feeling absolutely nothing, Scarlett closed the curtains and got back into bed. She stared at her daughter's profile—which bore a faint resemblance to his—and felt a chilling sense of sorrow.

She had once foolishly believed a child would save their marriage. She never imagined that a child would be the catalyst that shattered it completely.

Fortunately, there were only twenty-five days left until it was over. Twenty-five days until she could finally escape him and climb out of the hellfire that was the Flynn family.

For three consecutive days, Yardley camped out on his knees outside the Magnolia Villa. He arrived every night and left at dawn, kneeling perfectly straight through wind and rain.

Scarlett and Jacqueline were entirely in sync. They wordlessly ignored it, kept the doors and windows locked tight, and treated him like he didn't exist.

On the third day, the "performance" finally ended when Yardley collapsed with a high fever and pneumonia, landing him straight in the hospital.
